2019 Offseason Thread

This is pathetic. I wouldn't post this even but we are starved for any hint of a rumor.
Lucas Venuto.
Plays for Vienna, not getting much time. His contract ends in the summer but interested in moving now. The article itself says a move to NYC is unlikely but nevertheless reports that there is interest. The machine translation is worse than usual: "The New York City FC has also attracted interest. However, it is unlikely that the club from the "Big Apple" after Ismail Tajouri committed a second violet - but it is not completely ruled out yet."

Maybe one of our German speakers can tell us what the hell idiom that violet thing means.
Lol. Violet is the color of their kit, so I'm going to assume that "commit" is synonymous with "sign" and the translation didn't take into account verb tense (or something). This would resolve to "it is unlikely that the club from the 'Big Apple' would sign [another Wien player] after Ismael Tajouri".

And if that's correct I would guess they missed our raid on Malmo last season ;)

Can someone please post the off-season dates once more? When camp starts, when we leave for the Middle East, our first pre-season match, etc. I know the draft is on Friday so I’m assuming camp starts late next week?

@LionNYC’s estimated dates from the top of the thread:

Week of January 7 - MLS Schedule Release - Full 2019 MLS Schedule expected to be released during the latter part of the week but before the MLS SuperDraft. Home openers to be announced earlier.

January 11 - MLS SuperDraft - NYCFC will have the natural 19th, 43nd, 67th, and 75th picks (from Orlando) this year. The SuperDraft has been held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention to be held in Chicago this year. In 2016 and 2017, we traded up for higher selections.

January 26 - Preseason Beings - Locations TBD, Opponents TBD. Previously we've trained in Manchester, South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, California as well as travelled to Ecuador and Mexico for a friendly.
--> February 22 at Nashville SC

Early February - New Primary Kit - The current City blue kit has come to its end. A new primary kit will be unveiled for the 2019 and 2020 season. Leaks may come sooner as in previous years.
--> In late November leaks have already surfaced

Late February - City Membership Packages - What "free" stuff this year?

Before 2019 Season - Stadium Announcement? - Could it happen at this point?

Sunday, March 3 - Opening Weekend - 2019 Season Kicks Off. Let the campaign for the MLS Cup begin again...

Also why on earth would we not want to go back to the club that gave us Isi? Sign the whole squad and tell them to bring beer and pretzels.

To add a bit more context. A 23-year-old Brazilian winger. Short - 5'-4.5". So far in the current season has appeared in 10 games, with 1 goal in 287 minutes.

By contrast, during the first half of last season, Izzy appeared in 17 games, with 2 goals in 1,219 minutes.

Schedule predictions:

1. Everyone hates it.
2. We finish with 4 of 5 on the road.
3. We have at least one stretch where we play 4 games in 12 days.

2/3 always happen though.

as for 1. i will sure as hell include myself there this year based on the news that there will be even more weekday games

I like weekday matches more than weekends. So I won't hate it, but I'll understand everyone else's frustration. 2 & 3 are on point.
Weekday matches will actually now be good for me because I (almost surely, I'll know Wednesday) accepted a job offer near Bryant Park, meaning I will no longer be driving in to work but rather taking a train, meaning I can get to the games much quicker! (5pm end of work)

The show will be annoying, parceling out info in ways nobody cares about. Everyone just wants a list with their team's schedule. We don't want a segment on when the MLS cup rematch is, then when rivalry games happen, then when other big games happen, then OMG the Timbers will start with __ road games followed by __ home games.

But of course the league needs those streaming stats to push to sponsors!

Training camp starts Jan. 26. They've only announced the one preseason game so far, so we're still waiting for preseason details.

like 90% of the MLS shows they stream are worthless

Aren't they doing most of it in Abu Dabi?

That's been the rumor, but the team hasn't confirmed anything yet. There appears to be a couple of preseason games there, too, but that's also not confirmed. Would think the preseason schedule has to get released pretty soon, especially since the regular-season schedule comes out later today.
