Keaton Parks to NYCFC [Confirmed, 1 Year Loan with No Purchase Option]

I've read a couple of times now that he's weak in the tackle, so the idea of him being a Herrera replacement seems way off and / or disastrous.

Like adam , I'm hoping he can do the robot like Crouchy, but I'm not certain he'll score enough goals to often give us that particular satisfaction.

Anyway, I hope it does go through because I'm kind of bewildered as to what kind of player this guy is and how one of the tallest players in the league is going to look bounding across its smallest pitch.

He’s silky on the ball, and he does have the ability to score a goal. Benfica have tried to force him to become another Matic, but he’s really more SMS.

Maybe a midfield of:

Maxi with Keaton under him, then Ring as the D-mid.

Or you just go with Keaton-Ring behind Maxi. I feel like Yangel was always more of a box-to-box guy anyway, with Ring the D-mid in front of the back-4. So maybe the comparison isn't so bad?

What if the team goes 3-4-3 (more like 3-2-2-3) with back of Tinny-Callens-Chanot, and in the midfield we do a CM/CDM of Ring/Sands and a CAM of Maxi/Parks, then forwards Medina-Berget-Isi Or something similar?

Basically, what if they do 2 CAM 2 CM/CDM behind them? It doesn't even have to be symmetrical, but that way someone is backing Parks on defense and we will have two extra goal threats, and passers.

MLS posting:
(The reason I'm posting this is to draw attention to the positivecomment from the Benfica fan, not in the article, but the comments section.)

Benfica fan comment:

"As a Benfica fan, this kid is amazing. He's unlucky to crack the first team, we have Fejsa which has owned that DM spot for years and a breakout season for Alfa which got him the back up spot on the main team this season. Keaton has continued to impress on our Bteam which plays in the second division and the move to NYFC would be great as it's close to his family in the east coast. I just hope we don't leave him on loan too long as this guy has a lot of promise. "

So maybe something to be optimistic about?

It would be a terrific signing if true. Better than Ofori, not as good as Herrera.

One thing that supporter doesn't realize is that once he is here on loan, his future is up to us. MLS (I believe still) has a rule requiring all loans to last through the end of a season AND the league has an option to buy the player at a price agreed upon at the time of the loan. So once he is loaned, he can't be recalled until after the MLS season, and if he absolutely kills it in MLS we get to execute our option. Benfica would be left with no rights to him except probably a share of any sell-on fee we might get in the future.

Yep. I've been thinking of this. We will have the option to buy him, although it is certainly possible to agree a very unfavorable option price in order to protect Benfica's interest.

I would doubt MLS/NYCFC would agree to an unfavorable option price to follow the loan - that’s just not in their best interest if the player performs well....

Interesting thread from an FC Dallas beat writer:

We’re all assuming he is slotting in to either a 433 or 442 midfield position, but what if the team is going with a 352 or 451 in order to add extra skill players to maintain possession??? The midfield could then be a combination of Sands, Ring, Park’s, Maxi, Herrera/TBD..... plus/minus wide players.

I do not believe this rule is absolute. We definitely have an exception for certain intra-CFG loans, and this article claims all MLS teams are allowed 2 loaned players on roster without an option to buy as of 2016:

As a part of MLS rules, each team is allowed two players on loan with no option to buy, meaning that it is a loan and only a loan and that the player will return back to the original club at the end of the deal.

Isn't Castellanos one of the "no option to buy" players?
