And the 19th pick. Is the marginal improvement from 7 picks worth 75k GAM? Hell no. We be stupit.

I mean, yes. It was probably a needless move unless they really wanted this goalie and had no other targets. But the team still has (presumably) its $750,000 from the Harrison sale, it still presumably has $1.2M in TAM for this season, as well as the $2.8M in discretionary TAM. So it paid approximately 1.5% of its total allocation money. I'm sure they know how they plan to allocate their allocation money, and obviously they had this relatively small amount still available. Of all the things to question, this seems like a small one.

(Note: edited because I forgot about discretionary TAM).

You're right -- and I guess it depends on what you think of the moves that have already been reported. Spending GAM to draft a 4th-string goalie seems like a weird use of resources, but only $75,000 in GAM is a very small amount in a league that now features millions in allocation money per team.
But as a % of what we spend, it’s a lot. We don’t use optional am best I can tell.

Eta: should have just replied to this. You made the point I was. It’s pitiful on the part of our club and ownership.

adam LionNYC here is the chart with your recommended revisions.

FWIW I did consider Berget but came down same as SoupInNYC: that the relative expense of Berget, while high isn't nearly what Mix was. We could theoretically still field a Cup contending team with Berget's salary as a drag. We did not feel the same about Mix. This is subjective but c'est la vie.

ETA: Last chart had expansion draft labeled as super draft.

Kiko Casilla is looking for a move. We have a DP slot, so watch out. We can just rent out keepers to the rest of the league, so no one can play their top choice against us. #levels in that CFG roster building strategy.

Only if we get Medina off DP status so we can sign Casilla and another DP Keeper.... why stop at one when you can have two!!

I still don't find this encouraging. It makes it seem like they didn't have a plan in place for David leaving and they aren't even close to announcing a high profile summer signing. They are just doing damage control and trying to set lower expectations.

I hope I'm wrong.
It’s still a BS excuse from the club. If they wait until the summer every time, then they’re purposely tying their hands by limiting the roster to only being complete for half of the season. Yet somehow, other clubs figure out how to find players to bring in now. Atlanta went out and got the star from River Plate.

When you look at the chart above, it's easy to spot the difference in player recruiting during Vieira's tenure. It looks very bleak at the moment, and although anything is possible, I'm not expecting Torrent to be able to strengthen the team. Quite the opposite.

To add to me last post, it’s also a BS/slight of hand comment from Dome/club because if they use the cap mechanisms correctly, between DP and AM, then it should be a DP plus 2-3 other capable players. But if they’re saying the 2-3 will supplant Villa’s effect, then they’re failing to maximize the build of the roster since those 2-3 should be on the team concurrently and not as a replacement. Don’t be naive and believe they’re going with their first or even second choice plan, unless that happens to be one of frugality.

I'm sure they had a "plan" of sorts, but any plan of this nature is only in the team's control at the stage of research and prioritization. Then it becomes dependent on the agreement of the targets. NYCFC can influence that but lacks control, and it appears this season that they have not had any success at convincing anybody to sign on as yet.

To the extent I'm bothered by the $75k for the draft pick yesterday it's because of the current situation. I understand the club needs to plan for the future even though the 2019 roster is very incomplete, and the draft happens when it happens. They seem to be high on the kid, and I have doubts about some of their talent evaluation but that's a different sort of problem. But though I'm of the mind that $75k is not all that big of an amount now, we also don't currently know how much we will have to spend to convince multiple players to sign on. You can say right now we probably won't need it but it's just kind of early to tell.

Interesting quote from Dome:

Domenec Torrent on David Villa: “If its not possible to sign a name — I know our fans expect a name — maybe the solution is to sign two or three players to replace David because it is not easy. ”

From: https://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2019...ht-players-wingers-strikers-to-replace-david/

Doesn't sound encouraging.

I always take his quotes with a grain of salt because of the language barrier. Not sure what to make of this, but at least we know they're trying to replace him. He kind of intimates they're looking for a big name, but maybe they won't be able to poach one until the summer.

And this was my argument during the Villa debate. If they didn't have a plan for what to do after letting him go, they should have kept him.

So many things to pull from that. And fuck this piece of shit mediocre club.

Is it difficult to recruit in the winter? Absolutely. But guess what, money talks. Chelsea announced a £60 million deal for Pulisic that takes affect in July. Go spend some money.

He mentions Europe. Does he not know that the best MLS DPs have come from South America? Or Mexico? Go do your fucking business there.

I agree you can replace one player with three if we’re talking about goals. What you can’t do in MLS is spread $6 million of salary across three other players. What the fuck is wrong with these people?

If you read that quote and are anything but hopeful, you need a lobotomy.

I read it worse than sleight of hand because deception would require understanding, if you take it on face value Dome is possibly saying take the Villa money and spread it across 3 players. To me the quote reads like he doesn't understand the roster rules or the DP slot.

:tongueclosed: I said the same thing last year, when we signed whoever the fuck that kid is that never played for us.

Signing a goalkeeper in round one just shows we don't really care about the draft.

But if they don't care why do they keep burning GAM to go up and get guys? None of this makes any sense.
