Preseason - February 3 - FC Copenhagen

I think it’s also important to note the difference in quality between us and Copenhagen. As of right now they are in first in the Danish league and were in the Europa League. Meanwhile what have we done?

Glad I didn't get up I guess. Thanks for all the reports. Highlight was FootyLovin jinxing himself and reporting it in his usual good cheer. One question: A Annagram says Ring wore the Captain's armband, but JLa on Twitter (she is/was a Third Rail fixture/officer/volunteer) said Chanot did. Were they on at different times?

Another quickie:

FT 0-2, FCK deservedly won with two well taken goals by Skov. The first was a very good free kick, the other a shot from a lucky bounce after a corner. Caldwell couldn't have stopped either of them.

The whole team was substituted, and the formation became something like 3-5-0-0, where Sweat, Chanot and Tinny formed the defense, the rest were the midfielders, and the zeros were the player number 21 and Medina. Chanot was his usual self, giving his all. Isi and Tinnerholm brought a lot of movement to right, but as there was nobody in attack to play the ball to, they couldn't turn the game. Ofori... well he had a couple of good tackles, but anything he tried forward was hopeless. Sands looked calm and at least ok. He does much the same things as Ring, but is less nasty in tackle. Torres ran around a lot without providing much. The trialist (?) #81 made up the numbers without being too much out of his depth.

Medina is about the weakest player I've seen for some time.

With Callens, Chanot and Tinnerholm 3/4 of the defense is still sorted. The midfield of Ring, Isi (on the right wing) and by this showing I'd say Sands will go a long way. Maxi should play behind a striker, unless a good attacking midfielder becomes available (when Maxi could go to the left). The left side is a big question mark. There's no good quality LB, and neither has any of the current left wingers enough quality. But the most worrying part is that there is no proper forward in the team at all. The team needs a player who should be a target man and a striker in the same package. There aren't many available at this time of the year.

And once again: it was only the first friendly game of the close-season. No need for knee-jerks.

By the way, the FCK number 5 should have had a straight red for blatantly elbowing Isi. he only got yellow.
So you're saying Medina didn't look like a DP, even a rusty DP? There obviously wouldn't be much cohesion in the first preseason match, but one would think and hope that individual talent would at least shine, albeit appearing disjointed with the flow of the teammates. None of that from Jesus?

Yeah, total roster switch at the half. Ring captained the first half and Chanot the second.

In fairness he was playing in a position that he has none of the required qualities for.

Medina is not a bad player, far from it, he's just physically too weak to play in a striker role. At the moment the team's shape is such that Medina's strengths (sic!) aren't used well enough.

Being weak is a poor excuse (not from you, from him) - he had an entire offseason to work on strength training to get tougher to fend off challenges. We saw Harrison come back in year two looking bulked up and it helped him immensely. New drinking game will be wverytime he gets muscled off the ball.

I thought Taty did better but both of them suffered from a lack of attacking creativity in the midfield. A true 10 like Maxi helps. Would have also liked to see more fluidity up front but you can't really do that playing 3 6/8s in the midfield.

I don’t think that’s how genetics work.

Ever seen Maxi scrum and fight off tackles? No excuse for Medina.
Maxi is also 31. Sometimes it takes these kinds of experiences and learning from them to change your game. In this case it would be Medina learning to trap the ball better.

If 31 is the argument, then don’t sign him as a youth DP. Players that age are fully capable of learning to trap and fend off.

Seems like it was a good thing I was out on cold medicine and I didn't even remember this was at 6 am

Seeing Medina and Taty being shifted to striker after a season (Medina) and a half (Taty) further shows that Lewis has been robbed of game time to improve and help this team. I pray after these national team showings that he can become a regular. I’m afraid Lewis put himself in a good situation however to have suitors if NYCFC choose not to play him. The coaching staff will have some tough decisions to make.
