After losing the first leg at home 1-0 to Leeds United, Frank Lampard's Derby County storm back to a 4-2 win at Leeds to advance to the Playoff Championship at Wembley.

In his first year as a manager, Lampard is 90 minutes away from taking his team to the Premier League.

From the recent Athletic article about the effect the MLSPA's release of player salaries on the players:

The salary list also occasionally gets weaponized on the playing field itself. Boswell tells a story that’s made the rounds around the league over the past few years, one backed up by a player who was on the field during the game he refers to. During the New York Red Bulls’ famed 7-0 rout of NYCFC in 2016—a match which took place just two days after the release of the union’s salary list—Red Bulls midfielder Felipe turned to English international Frank Lampard late in the match.

“So Felipe is running his mouth to Lampard,” Boswell recounts. “And he says ‘you’re washed up, you’re overpaid,’ and then he points at the scoreboard or something and says ‘look at the score man, look how badly you’re losing.’”

Lampard, a player who was making $6 million for his services in 2016 and one who’d go on to make $5,882 per minute he was on the field for NYCFC over two seasons—was unbothered.

“I have $50 million in my checking account,” Boswell recalls the Chelsea legend replying to Felipe. “I’m not losing.”

“What could Felipe even say at that point?” Boswell said. “He couldn’t say anything. I used to talk shit about it to guys on the field, too. I’d be like ‘you’re the most overpaid piece of shit in this league.’ And when I played against guys who were underpaid, I’d light them up, too. I’d be like ‘come on man, why aren’t you getting your money?’ and they’d be like ‘really, oh man, you think?’ Guys would laugh.”

While Pulisic was at Dortmund I followed the team. I never quite became a fan, but I watched some games, and hoped both he and the club did well. I figured I'd do the same with Chelsea. Then they have to go ruin it by hiring King Asshole..
There’s a massive argument to be made that the team was ruined once Abramovich became owner. He’s too chummy with the totalitarian leader and his money is 100% questionable.

Fascinating video from of a VERY young Frank at a West Ham fan event with his uncle and then Hammers manager Harry Redknapp.

This! I could never support a club run with shady oil money and with totalitarian ties and Chelsea really peaked right before his arrival.

He bought a team hot off two FA Cup titles, a European Cup Winners Cup title and a Supercup title and has nothing to show since his arrival other than five Premier League titles, five more FA Cups, three League Cups, two Europa League titles and the Champions League.
