Seattle - Postmatch

I call it like I see it, and I’ll give credit when credit is due.....

Can’t figure out what style the team is playing, but they’re firing on all cylinders and I love that when the ball is won back they jump into 6th gear with nitro to attack. Never had that play in the arsenal before and it’s great at putting the opponent on their heels. If this is Dome’s doing, bravo; if it was Pep when he was here for those matches, then good for him to be the teacher.

Taty has really raised his game - he puts effort in everywhere and does the dirty work of pressing and making selfless runs off the ball.

The flip side is I still think Medina is trash and with the exception of his tap-in goal (was it offside?) I never saw him play with any urgency or determination last night. Sell him immediately.

Next on the sell list is Mitrita. He was arguing all night with his teammates and still thinks he can beat 4 defenders off the dribble. There’s zero place for selfishness on this team. Cut losses and transfer him back to an eastern block league.

For a person that likes to write, you’re an ace at cherry picking and ignoring context when trolling. But you keep doing you.

And since I give credit when credit is due, you’re writing isn’t bad. It’s far better than your infatuation with flawed meta data and xG.

No, it was not offside.

Yes, hopefully Mitrita has lost minimal value on the market at this point. Either way, it's blatantly obvious at this point that he, at best, was significantly overpaid for. If he were 21, I'd say let's see how he matures, but he's not. Sell him now, get a DP that can make an actual and consistent difference in a game.

Btw, Mitrita, our DP, the then 3rd highest transfer fee in league history, has played:
0 complete games since April 6th.
Only played a full 90 in our first 5 matches, in which we had zero wins.
Has been pointlessly subbed out late several times recently, which I can only interpret as a deliberate sign of displeasure from Dome.
Has played zero games in which 4 413Blue said to himself "ok, this dude might actually be pretty good"

We dropped the ball on this kid.

My wife commented after a few torrid runs into the defense that “that one guy doesn’t ever pass - what’s his problem?”

Yeah I was being a dick, sorry. Thanks for reading The Outfield! We'll bring you around on analytics eventually.

Something I didn't realize until this morning. The team didn't wear the special July 4th warm up kits yesterday.

Will they wear them Sunday?

I don’t think so. Pretty sure they have different warmups for Sunday for military appreciation day

Wouldn't expect him until after NJ. Not worth rushing back for. Dome has his work cut out for him after Sunday.

ETA: We had some Dundee supporters in our section tonight who were so excited for him to be in NYC. "He's going to light the place up." Makes sense because we've been after him for 12 months. Maybe we saw why, with ITS slumping a bit. Guessing we'd get a GMS update this week, no? Or at least a training sighting? He's at least available after the 9th, so technically available for Orlando.

They will be pissed at you for calling them Dundee fans lol

It's Dundee Utd who he played for

Well the team results have certainly picked up this season. Unfortunately I have only managed to see a couple of games, because unlike the first 2 seasons, not many are on Sky TV. I am very happy for you guys though and it must be great for you to watch a winning team. I want to ask you, how good is the general play at the moment?

Good. The build up and control has been nice to see.

But I think the success has really come with the counter attack. My two cents. Maybe a numbers nerd like Christopher Jee Christopher Jee can confirm that.

I can't think of a less enticing setup, but as Dome keeps saying, the team seems to have learnt how to play positionally which is to say that they seem to understand how to move such that they can have more players around the ball than the opposition, and how to apply this in different systems.

This means faster, shorter, more attractive passing and better chances. It also means that when they lose the ball they are more easily able to regain it in positions high up the field, which may explain the counterattacking / counterpressing you somewhat allude to.

I'm not really as into the numbers as you say, but you could probably look into things like where they are recovering the ball, how many passes for each defensive action they're allowing and common passing patterns. Then you could put it into context by comparing our figures now to our figures last year, or other teams.

I'm on vacation so I'd recommend you read through some articles theoutfield.org W william straiton .
