Official Vent Thread

That much is still a pain. We had a couple of inches back in the spring, but are set up to deal with that much pretty well. We had 3.5 feet in Irene, and our basement is basically our family room. Lost the couch, TV, washer/dryer, water heater, furnace, small refrigerator, floor, walls, etc.

Since then, the village has installed a flood mitigation system, so we should be good going forward.
That’s crazy - the water heater and furnace and floors are the really painful ones to read. Hopefully no mold behind the walls.

Which town are you in? One of the River Towns on the Hudson?

Bronxville. Water tables are really high, and that storm dumped 12" of rain at the end of the wettest August on record. It's not remembered as much in NYC, but it devastated lots of places north. The school flooded in town which delayed the opening and caused millions in damage.

We also lost our car as the garage flooded too. Ultimately insurance covered the car and the appliances in the basement, but we had to cover the couch, TV, toys, etc.

Can’t imagine losing the car too. Really surprised insurance covered some things but not all - would figure it’d be all or nothing. Was it flood insurance or home owners/car insurance?

I‘m not familiar with Bronxville - is it mainly flat (so it got flooded like the yearly pictures of the Mississippi) or do you have hills/valleys where the water got trapped (like yesterday's 4th Avenue/Park Slope)?

Bronxville has two big hills that drain into a valley where the school sits and where I live, and thence onward to the Bronx River. But even on the hills, the basements are prone to flooding because the water table is close to the surface.

Car insurance covered the car. Flood insurance covered everything else. For basements, however, flood insurance does not cover anything beyond appliances and walls, including electrical wiring. Everything else is on your dime; so if you have a finished basement, a lot doesn't get covered.

Flood insurance, by the way, is a very good deal and worth getting if there is any chance you might get water damage.

Your welcome! My taxes (and yours) go to subsidize your flood insurance. No insurance company would offer it if it weren't backed by the federal government.

It's so absurd that people can build mansions on waterfront property, buy relatively super cheap insurance (risk adjusted), and have the US tax payer foot the bill (for the most part). Clearly not the case for you as your inland and you have legitimate wingy risk to protect against, but its subsidized non-the-less.

fwiw, my brother lived in a valley in pelham and all the water would drain onto his block from the surrounding area. He also had a flooding problem but didn't finish his basement. Instead it is bare concrete and has a sump pump.

Is there really no other option to watch replays immediately after a home game other than youtubetv/cable? I just want to watch nycfc and not pay $50 just for that.
So I have ESPN+ but it seems that I have to wait 48 hours in order to watch the game. im tempted to get a VPN.

any ideas?

You can rewind on ESPN+ if you still have the stream open.
Also I just checked it on my ESPN app and I was able to start the game from the beginning. It’s already up. There’s a 2 hour long replay there.

so i get a national broadcast alert, indicating that the event has been blacked out in my area. I got a VPN and it's blacked out nation wide. damn this is annoying

Right, didn’t cross my mind that it wouldn’t be the same for pics viewers. You’d think that once the match is over they’d let you view it right away.
I guess the only other option is to DVR local matches that you miss.

So SlingTV just dropped the YES network. That’s NYCFC, also my Yankees and Nets. Now I have to stream YES separately through Fox Sports Go to watch most my teams.

Did you try FSGo for your replay? It’s playing there till ESPN picks it up in 48 hours.

I placed an order for 6 cases of water on Amazon Prime Now. Only 1 showed up. Okay, I got a refund and credit.

But when I place the order again for the missing 5, I can only put 1 in my cart because of availability.

I'll see what's available tomorrow, but I'm quite upset.

Place an order for a refrigerator with an internal water dispenser. You'll get many many gallons more with a single filter cartridge.

How are you going to log in to FSGo if your your cable provider does not offer Fox Sports programming?

Government flood insurance only covers up to $250k in dwelling loss, so mansions on the waterfront generally need private, unsubsidized, flood insurance to cover replacement cost. And many insurance companies offer flood insurance that isn't backed by the federal government.

Actually Sling still carries, Fox, FX, FS1, FS2. Just dropped Yes. But I didn’t use sling to log onto FSgo anyway, so not sure if credentials will work.

Right, but you’re only authorized to watch channels on FSGo that you are authorized to watch on your tv.

RE: Sling TV, did it finally happened? Because they had announced it for Monday, but last time I checked they had agreed on an extension to continue negotiating. They might still drop it, but part of the problem seems to be that Sling/Dish Network wanted to sign a long term deal but YES/Fox etc was in process of changing ownership and could only negotiate a shorter deal.

BTW there are a few streaming services that carry YES, but none as cheap as Sling.

Yeah they dropped it and that’s the crux. Bc of the Disney buying it and selling it off thing.

You’re right. There are other options. But Sling is only $25 and other options are $50. I have a way to watch FSgo, so I’m fine for a Yes substitute. Also, other options don’t have NFL network or allow me to add redzone for $10 when the NFL season starts.

Do people who work at car dealerships understand why they are universally reviled? The department does not matter: sales, service, finance, whatever. I am treated with base line competence and courtesy maybe 20% of the time, probably less.
