Welcome to the 2019/2020 Bundesliga season! For the first time since 11-12, a third team has made it up! Congratulations to Union Berlin, 1. FC Köln, and SC Paderborn on being promoted!

Teams Competing in 2019/2020: (promoted | Defending Champion)
FC Augsburg
Hertha BSC
Union Berlin
Werder Bremen
Borussia Dortmund
Fortuna Düsseldorf
Eintracht Frankfurt
SC Freiburg
1899 Hoffenheim
1. FC Köln
RB Leipzig
Bayer Leverkusen
Mainz 05
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Bayern Munich
SC Paderborn
Schalke 04
VfL Wolfsburg

After a close title race last season, defending champions Bayern Munich have lost three talented players, but have made up for it with a few great young signings in Pavard, Goretzka and co. At the same time, Dortmund has bought some of the best talent in Germany, the likes of Brandt, Hazard, and Schultz.
On the other side of the coin, Cologne is looking to stay up this time after getting relegated with their lowest points tally to date. (Beaten last year, however, by both Nurnberg and Hannover.)
SC Paderborn embrace their second stint in the top flight, after having dropped back down directly in the 14-15 season.
Union Berlin will play their first ever top-flight season, and the question is whether they will pull a Darmstad and RB Leipzig, or if they'll drop right back next season.

...All in all, I'm really looking forward to this season! It should be a blast.

Would be interested to hear Schwallacus Schwallacus your take on the standings this season.
After the transfers so far this season, here are my takes:
  • Augsburg impress me with their signings.
  • Hoffenheim look like they're gonna drown this season
  • The three promoted sides look like they mean business.
  • Bayern...? okay then...?
  • Mainz, for the third season running completely didn't impress me with their signings at all. I think they'll go down this season, but honestly the promoted sides look like they mean business, but will that help them stay up? no clue. Mainz might get lucky this seaosn.
And with that, here is my 2019-2020 Bundesliga Ranking guess:
1. Dortmund
2. Leverkusen
3. Bayern (Surely they can't think everything is going well?)
4. Leipzig
5. Bremen (this will lead to relegation or close to it next season bc of stretched depth)
6. Augsburg
7. Frankfurt
8. Cologne
9. Dusseldorf
10. Monchengladbach
11. Schalke
12. Wolfsburg
13. Hoffenheim
14. Hertha Berlin
15. Freiburg
16. Union Berlin
17. Mainz
18. Paderborn

At the end of the day, I think Mainz and Paderborn are going to go down, but Union and Freiburg are going to be just as terrible. Gonna be an exciting relegation battle!

11th? They shat the bed last season but I'd be shocked if they don't at least finish in shouting distance of a CL spot.

... especially with David Wagner of Huddersfield Town fame at the helm.
they didn't get any good players in the offseason and offloaded some of their good players. no way CL. lmao

After the transfers so far this season, here are my takes:
  • Augsburg impress me with their signings.
  • Hoffenheim look like they're gonna drown this season
    • Loss of their brilliant HC and most of their premier players the past 2-3 years, I fully agree
  • The three promoted sides look like they mean business.
    • Köln I presume will stay up. I want Union Berlin to stay up, as I love their story but I'm not sure how their team will handle the BuLi. Paderborn I think may get relegated.
  • Bayern...? okay then...?
    • Window isn't done, but right now we didn't do enough to strengthen our attack, namely wings (Sane transfer appears to be happening even with the injury in Community shield? Ziyech also rumored to be a signing).
  • Mainz, for the third season running completely didn't impress me with their signings at all. I think they'll go down this season, but honestly the promoted sides look like they mean business, but will that help them stay up? no clue. Mainz might get lucky this seaosn.

My opinions to your points below;
  • Augsburg impress me with their signings.
    • I thought BVB had a very strong first 2-3 days of signings in getting Brandt, Schultz, and Hazard. Haven't done too much since, aside adding some veteran experience in Hummels. Hummels I think has another 1-2 good years left in him, so big signing for them. Don't want another collapse ;) I already miss Hummels, but I'm happy he's going somewhere he can get bountiful minutes barring injury.

    • Window isn't done, but right now we didn't do enough to strengthen our attack, namely wings (Sane transfer appears to be happening even with the injury in Community shield? Ziyech also rumored to be a signing). Hernandez and Pavard are great defensive depth signings, being as they can cover numerous spots. I think Hernandez is starting once his knee is fully ready, and Pavard is going to be a backup or sub for Kimmich. Possible signing of Roca would be good midfield depth/starter. A LOT of "ifs" though for Bayern.
You can't be serious in thinking Leverkusen is going to finish above Bayern. Kai Havertz is a machine but losing Brandt is going to hurt them, big addition to BVB though. I think this may be the year BVB finishes ahead of Bayern due to the exodus of Hummels, Robben, and Ribery. Players who were the face of Bayern for essentially the past decade (Hummels less so, only here a few years). Coman and Serge are really good albeit injury prone, and we lost a few younger kids to other clubs. Still some time in the window to bring in players, but right now I don't think Bayern could win the BuLi, it would be BVB's title to lose if no further signings are made (written 8/4 at 9AM).

Here's my predictions;
1. Dortmund
2. Bayern
3. Leipzig
4. Bremen
5. Leverkusen
6. Augsburg
7. Wolfsburg
8. Köln
9. Hertha Berlin
10. Monchengladbach
11. Schalke
12. Frankfurt (loss of Jovic & Haller hurts)
13. Düsseldorf
14. Hoffenheim
15. Freiburg
16. Union Berlin
17. Mainz
18. Paderborn

Bremen is essentially mimicking Frankfurt from 2 years ago, making a decent run in the cup and in the League, then tired the next season, as you noted as well. I hope Sargent can get and cement his place as a striker for them.

I'm glad to see we both are still on the "Mainz is on their way out" train lol.

In regards to Bayern, it's worrying because their squad is only 21 players with very little room for injury- already on saturday they had to field two goalkeepers. That's the main reason I see them coming in below Leverkusen. I also think that Leverkusen has made some rockstar signings this offseason in:
Nadiem Amiri (Hoffenheim), Kerem Demirbay (Hoffenheim), Niklas Lomb (Sandhausen, end of loan), Tomasz Kucz (Dunajska Streda, end of loan), Moussa Diaby (Paris Saint-Germain), Daley Sinkgraven (Ajax)
(Referenced from the bundesliga.com transfers page)

Sure they lost Brandt, but Amiri, Demirbay are very good, plus I think they made other signings (sinkgraven to come back to Bosz who coached him at Ajax, plus Diaby who is young and could be a dembele-like character) that will help them. They already got 58 points last season and with this I think they'll easily pass 60 points this season.

I think at the end of the day Bayern's place in the standings hinges on whether they get injuries or not.

1/4 of the way through the season and the BuLi table is... incredibly close. I don't remember a time when top teams like BVB and Bayern were not only having such trouble, but the "secondary" teams also doing well enough to have nine different teams within 2 points of being top of the table. Wowzers. There's certainly a lot of season left, but I'm most intrigued to see how the next few months go. The Foals are top along with Wolfsburg, with the Foals playing some decent footie to back up their spot (even with the loss vs. BVB). Schalke had a chance to go top but chose to lose instead. It seemed RBL was going to chase for the top but have cooled off the past few games. I honestly don't know if any club wants to win the league so far.

Bayern are in shambles defensively with injuries and new players not fully adjusted to the system. Kovac was supposedly a defensive minded coach, but Bayern have been anything but chaotic in defense thus far this season. I think I'm getting onto the #KovacOut train after seeing the lack of offensive strategy and an inability to get the team ready for games.

I'll have to see what Shwafta Shwafta says regarding BVB and their minor struggles in the early part of the season.

I agree with you on the #kovacOut train, he's been pretty bad in terms of what I see for him in the future. At the same time, I'm in a #favreOut train, because his lack of passion in big and small games really doesn't fit well and we seem to always crap the bed in those games. We should be top of the league now, but we couldn't beat Union Berlin or Werder Bremen.

Meanwhile, the relegation battle is (unsurprisingly) shaping up like we thought.

I can't wait for the rest of the season to play out!

I feel like I’ve read this book before last year when Pulisic was unceremoniously pushed out to make way for Sancho, and now Sancho is being marginalized for what I assume to be the lifting of Reyna to the 1st team. Can’t fault them for wanting to cash in, but their methodology seems suspect and damaging.

Exclusive: Jadon Sancho feels ‘humiliated and scapegoated’ by Dortmund amid interest from Barcelona, Liverpool, United and Real
