2019 International Duty

And he can hop on a flight from St Louis after the Uruguay match and play the next day in NY vs TOR. No reason why not if he’s just sitting on the bench for both matches. Or just leave ‘camp’ early after the Mex match and play both for us.

In all likelihood he wouldn't get on the field, even if Steffen gets injured. Guzan would probably get the nod before he does. If i were Johnson - i'd be focusing on club duty. it's an honor to be called up and recognized - but club duty is more important now. it's not even a WCQ game. USAvMex is a big game, but he won't play. not a chance.

Berhalter just wants to ruin everyone's lives. Continuing to call up Trapp and Zardes... comical. #Crew4Ever?

Four keepers for two friendlies? That makes zero sense unless some of those called up miss only part of the time.

For Sean Johnson to miss 3 club games to sit on the bench makes no sense at all. Come on Berhalter.

He wouldn't miss 3 games - just 2 - New England and Toronto.

MLS reporting that Nagbe TURNED DOWN national team callup. um... come on Sean - you wanna sit on a bench that bad?

we need everyone for the final stretch. to be honest, wish callens turned down his national callup too. can't afford to have him getting injured and missing for games..

So basically:
Johnson -> Stuver
Chanot -> Ibeagha
Mata -> Sweat
Callens -> ???? Maybe Rocha?

Stuver
Sweat - Ibeagha - Ring - Tinnerholm

gonna be a rough next few weeks indeed...

guess we're just gonna have to go on all out attack and limit our defending responsibilities. put all our wingers/forwards/strikers all on the field at once.

i would guess:

callens -> ibeagha
mata -> sweat
chanot -> miller
johnson -> stuver

let's hope stuver doesn't injure more of our players again... to be honest, i kinda want to see luis get some game time. but i know it won't happen.

Though he has not made an official announcement to that effect, it sounds like Nagbe is done with NT duty altogether, just like Ring. It's one thing to refuse a call up if you're done. It's very different if you hope to be called in the future. I expect Callens and Johnson are wary of saying no.

Right. If a player has a good reason to avoid a call up, he might get a waiver or two. But Nagbe just doesn't seem interested. Plus, he was deceptive in public about why he wasn't being called up - putting the blame on the coaches. That can't sit well with Berhalter.

The fact that Bertahalter is still using Zardes and Trapp makes me think that he’s the wrong coach for the USMNT. Zardes doesn’t have the touch to play in the World Cup. I thought that was pretty obvious. Trapp also seems to lack the quality for that level of play.

But go ahead and take them cause Columbus is going nowhere but what you messing with SJ?

Greg is a munch.

I get the feeling that the back-line would be more like:

Rocha - Sweat - Ibeagha - Tinny

Rocha has played at the LB position before and doesn't offer much going forward, but is a fairly safe player. I like Sweat defensively as a LCB more than a LB, and it keeps a left footed player at that spot, which is something that Dome prefers.

A wild-card could also be if Dome throws JPT/Miller out there either at LB, or at RB and moves Tinny temporarily to LB. Really hurts with Sands being injured and unavailable during this period.

berhalter is an idiot. he's clearly playing favorites. guaranteed he wastes a lot of people's time, calling up players who should be given a chance to shine but won't see any significant playing time.

his vision is flawed. he's not a national team coach. i'm preparing myself for another world cup without the US... only way we're getting in is when we co-host it in 2026.

it's a damn shame that a country this big with this many kids can't produce world class level talent in bigger numbers. it comes down to a failure of the US federation and US soccer from top to bottom. they should have done a major overhaul after the debacle in T&T, but they barely did anything. it'll be another 20 years before soccer is popular enough in this country to put more pressure on US soccer to get results.

how many great players have we lost to mexico or other countries cause we didn't call them up first? why aren't we hiring a world class level coach? We could have had tata martino before he went to mexico (says the rumor mill) but we go for berhalter instead.

I also blame them for never recognizing my quality as a youth.. but i digress.

My issue with Zardes is that he shouldn't be in the plans for 2022 WC. BUT, I will say this: he can be good still and his confidence should be sky high after a run of good form. However, I hope we see him only in mop-up time. With most minutes to the guys we need to impress and win over and the youts.

Don't they get a hefty paycheck when they get called up? Might make it worth going even if you know you're not going to get out of those comfy chairs.
