I personally feel this is absolutely bullshit and MLS is just making up the rules as they go along (which they do anyway). Nowhere does it say that fined players for simulation have their good behavior reduction incentive reset.

EDIT: It does say supplement discipline, which vaguely could be understood as a fine. But a fine for anything? Just another layer to the complexity.

Ok, I've updated the chart. Even got to add a new color for fines (who knew?). 1 player suspended, 4 on INTL duty, 2 more injured. Of those 7 players, 6 of them are presumes starters when available: Maxi, Chanot, Callens, Mata, Heber, Sands.

Sweat and Ofori can both earn reductions this match if neither received an undisclosed fine since their last yellow.

strikethru = out; italics = questionable

Striker: Heber, Castellanos
Wing: Tajouri-Shradi, Mackay-Steven
Wing/CAM: Moralez, Mitriţă, Medina
CM: Ring, Parks, Ofori, Torres, Rocha, Haak
RB: Tinnerholm, Miller, Scally
LB: Matarrita, Sweat

So we’re only dressing 13 field players. Yikes.

I’d like to see Isi in the Maxi role. He’s played there in a dual #10 capacity for us before.

Rocha should be available for selection as his last match with Belize was on Sunday, 9/8

Fines are supplemental discipline. We don't have to like the rule, but this has been the rule all along. Thanks to Glenn for looking into it. I think it's a little harsh to allow good behavior incentives to get canceled by a fine, but on the other hand if he's been fined for simulation, then he should have been carded during the game and the fine is in place of the non-issued yellow. So really, we have nothing to complain about.

That being said, I do think suspending a guy for amassing 6 yellow cards in 28 games is ridiculous. I'd love to see the league look at changing the accumulation suspensions, because it seems harsh. I feel like they should make it 4 yellows over a 10-game span or something. Split the season into thirds, maybe -- we should be allowing the league's best players to stay on the field, not be looking for reasons to suspend them.

The Belize player who scores the first goal makes the same, or at least similar, hand/face gesture as Medina did on Saturday. I was wondering if it might mean something else in other cultures.

Noticed that too. But with a distinctly different facial expression.

Of course, we could also be reading way too much into this (for a change).

Matarrita should be back, no? Costa Rica's only game of this window was on Friday.

Did anyone confirm from MLS that he got suspended for two games? We’ve all seen that what we think we know about cards sometimes doesn’t apply...

No, but I've seen that rule applied enough over the years that I am confident that's how it works.

No. While he is back, he should be serving the second game of his two-game suspension.

NYCFC listed him as suspended for Saturday's game, so maybe they were able to make the suspension stick for that game while he played for Costa Rica?

Here is one possibility. Costa Rica played Friday. I suppose that maybe we are taking the position that after the game he was released and therefore was available for our game on Saturday.

Now, I think that is a bad argument. For one, Matarrita went 90 minutes on Friday. For another, the game was in Costa Rica, so it would have been a struggle for him to even get back by kickoff.

But, perhaps the league will look at the technicality that he was released from his national team at the final whistle on Friday night and therefore served his suspension on Saturday.
