At work still. Getting this thread up for those who want to bitch about the referee tonight. From what I’ve read on Twitter it was atrocious. What’s new?

I thought there were some big non-calls in the first half. I’ll look at the late broadcast.
I thought Anton was shoved down...
Not clear on why ball played to Goalie wasn’t an offense. Guess intention was viewed differently.
Thought Seb was kind of hard done on Penalty. Looked to me like Altodore was pulling in Seb’sJersey as well and should have just negated anything Seb was doing.

Imagine if you introduced someone to NYCFC with your blue cards this week. Two games, laughingstock officials. The first thing that would stick out would not be the baseball stadium, but the horrendous officiating.

It was a clear as day red card, although not a penalty as Taty appeared to be called for the tug (unless he was called for simulation as I originally thought) before the violent strike to the face. Wouldn't have mattered much that late, but a review should have been done and a red given.

That being said, I'm thrilled with the point considering the congestion and missing players. Not much more to analyze in this game considering the circumstances.

Mickey Mouse league

We can bitch about it all we want. Rooney and Zlatan are two of the most popular and well known players in the world. Both of them have publicly ridiculed the officiating in MLS. Nothing will change. Don Garner fines coaches for speaking up. He's been riding the coattails of expansion for a while now. He needs to be held accountable for this type of trash. It's literally going to drive prime players away. We are already known as a hack league.

I am absolutely not one to complain about refs. I generally hate that, because it is so subjective and because things things tend to even out over the long haul. Also, not a big fan of giving people a hard time, who are out there trying their best.

Having said all that: My god, that was awful reffing tonight

Ref said that the smack to the face was after the foul was already called on Taty -- you can not award a PK for a foul committed when the ball is no longer in play.
Where was the red then? Even as a dead ball foul, hand to face is a red, especially an outstretched arm not in a running motion. Also curious what the fouls was on Taty since shirt tugging happens all the time uncalled.

Penso ‘s excuse sounds like the party line after the fact and after he got his instructions from above.

Anyone notice the lights flickering/getting brighter and darker through the game? Is YS trying to save $$$ on their coned bill?

definitely noticed this. thought it was just me overheating and blacking out. lol

what is there to say about tonight's game? we were missing our engine in the middle of the field and our key CB combo that keeps the back line organized. You know if Callens/Chanot were playing, there's no way Jozy would have been left alone so many damn times.

I don't think anybody had a particularly bad game. Ibeagha probably had the worst of everyone. He had some good defensive plays but poor positioning, losing track of Jozy, and no vision/intelligence to distribute forward and make himself available in GOOD positions for support.

Other than that, we had a lot of players make some bad mistakes. Parks giving the ball away in really bad positions, Sweat going to ground in the box way too easily (which is just evident that he was out of position), and Mata just showing how his stamina levels are average at best.

Medina, Ring, Mitri, and even Rocha all had a decent game. Ring's yellow was BS. he pulled out of the tackle. Foul sure, but not a yellow. We were clearly the better side in the first half. We passed and moved with purpose. We just didn't have enough people in the box and were missing the final product in the attacking third. 2nd half we kind of deflated. I think we were really tired or something. The team was stretched and resulted in us being outnumbered in midfield a lot. All too often we'd go on the counter, our forwards are near the opponent's 18 and our backline is still way in our half. That just can't happen. We have to stay compact. 2nd-string defenders or not, it's just defending 101.

Johnson had to go GOD MODE after all to save that 2nd PK. it was a beautiful save with the trailing hand. I thought that would be the turning point for us in the 2nd half and give us the momentum to find a winner but we just kept on with the pointless possession with no real forward movement.

The through ball to GMS was perfect. He had the shot, but decided to pass it off. Had he gone for goal himself, he'd have had a great opportunity to score.

As for Taty's bloody nose, I get why VAR did not step in. Taty was called for the foul before he was smacked in the face. Taty's foul is not reviewable. Mavinga's arm swing should have been reviewed for a red card. But in the end, we wouldn't have gotten a PK since Taty's foul was called first. From my view, it did not look like a foul on Taty. Just looked like he was jockeying for position and was trying to squeeze between Gonzalez and Mavinga. So for me, should have been a red card and a PK cause Taty should have never been called for a foul.

Anyway, I'm ok with a point, but i'm a bit upset because I think it was entirely possible for us to get 3 points. We got very lucky TFC was unable to finish because they had entirely TOO many clear chances but failed to convert.

Oh well, onto SJ, which is going to be a very difficult game and a huge test for our ability to play short.

It's CYA mularkey. I'd have to bet he gets a suspension from the committee. I love that Penso appeared to have the yellow card out for Taty until he saw the blood.

Uh, did you see how open Toronto was in the corner of the field Mata was supposed to defend? Every dangerous cross came from there. If Altidore wasn’t such a bad finisher, he should have had 2-3 goals off service from there.

Penso definitely deserves a suspension from the committee.

We were lucky to tie, but unlucky not to win :sleepy:
Loved that SJ told Penso off to get the yellow - fired him up to make the save.

Felt like every player on the field should have taken a yellow, one after the other, when the PK wasn’t awarded. Drag the end of the match out another few minutes for the sake of making a point and drawing attention to the poor performance from the ref.

yea that's what i was saying. he was out of gas the entire second half and couldn't defend the space. he literally slow jogged back to position after making a run on an overlap. i was screaming at him to get back to position. his first half performance was good.. but 2nd half, he was too tired to defend properly. when he gets tired, he just shuts off defensively. Sweat didn't have enough in him to cover either. it's why he had to go to ground and give up that 2nd PK. unlucky but shouldn't have ever been in that position had mata defended properly.

Referees are holding back this league more than charter flights. Back to back games with terrible refereeing performances on both sides of the ball.

For sure. Right now MLS is worried about expansion and that's great. But it should be worrying about making the league better first and that comes with improving travel conditions and more importantly, improving the quality of the refs. World class players don't want to deal with bullshit refs. Rooney is leaving for these two reasons more than anything I bet (if he hasn't said as much already).

If we want to be a top league in the world, the refs need to improve. It's a talking point after every single game.. EVERY SINGLE GAME. not just ours, but every game in the league. That shouldn't be the case! We have VAR, it should be used properly. We all watch EPL on the weekends on NBC, how often do they talk about the refereeing after the game? almost never. Sure, with VAR just introduced, they talk about some decisions but it's why it was a horrible call, but more so why people are whining about it when it is the RIGHT call.

PRO needs to step their game up. I feel like supporters around the league need to petition for better refs. Clubs can't do it cause they'll get fined. But as supporters, we can make our voice heard.

Ben Sweat isn’t good enough for this team. Reffing was bad but Ben Sweat was FUCKING TERRIBLE tonight. Fucking terrible. Drop his piece of shit ass and play Miller. I’ll drice him back to fucking Tampa. He’s fucking terrible. Enough of this shit with him seeing the field.

It wasn’t stamina until the end - before that and for most of the match, he was completely out of position right to the middle near Sweat, or much farther up the field.
