USMNT Talk

How come no one bitches that the USMNT is playing in a baseball stadium? we get shit thrown on us all the time and the USMNT goes and plays in a baseball stadium. with all the SSS stadiums in the country, they pick a baseball one...

guess when St Louis gets their SSS built, it'll be there.
It took me a minute to realize the horizontal cable running the length of the field was the foul ball netting wire.... followed by a WTF?!?!

NYCFC plays at YS out of necessity. USSoccer has the pick of the country and goes with a baseball park why???

exactly my thoughts. only thing I can think of is that St Louis is apparently a rich soccer area so they wanted to play there. other reason may be that there aren't any SSS in the country that had large enough capacity for the expected attendance.

Wouldn’t it at least be better to play in a football stadium? This is Mickey Mouse, bush league stuff

Feel sorry for those at the match - Pulisic and McKennie went home and Pomykal is in the doghouse for tossing Zardes under the bus.

I'll give you two guesses but you're only going to need one.

$$$

What were the prices for the tix? When they play in the NY/NJ region, they jack the prices up and then wonder why the fans don’t fill out the stadium. Elsewhere in the country, the tix prices are less and they get better turnout. Their venue selection process & tix pricing is deeply flawed - I don’t expect we’ll get another WCQ match again for a while, at least not a meaningful one.

I’m starting to think that the USMNProgram deserves to loose. I feel bad for the USMNTeam. Maybe losing is what we get for the organization holding a match in a baseball stadium and the head coach hiring is due to nepotism.

Pulisic sits out 2 straight games coming out of the international break after Chelsea paid $73mm for him and FUCK FRANK LAMPARD.
Three of you count the champions league.

Frank Lampard is going the jingoistic route to the detriment of both his team and Pulisic.

Several guys are injured: Brooks, Adams, Weah among them.

I am most surprised that Duane Holmes wasn't called in, but he's just back from a long injury, so maybe they want to give him a little more time.

Dest rejected a call up. Guess he’s gonna play for the Dutch. That sucks.
Or he just doesn't want to get forced into a decision yet. The Nations League would cap-tie him.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Dest ended up choosing the Dutch. The kid was born and raised in Amsterdam. I have a lot of doubts about Berhalter, and some of the overall USMNT "recruiting", but losing Dest to the Dutch isn't one I'd be willing to blame someone on (and I don't mean to insinuate that twsj91 twsj91 was blaming Berhalter).

I’m not ready to blame Berhalter, but when Pomykal called out the insane player selection (Zardes over Sargent) it demonstrates that it’s not lost on the players themselves. Makes me wonder if Dest is weary of the team going forward because he had zero reluctance to play for the U20 team, but commitment to the US senior side could mean always being part of a flawed setup with every callup/camp. If there are guys on the team (there are) that some players question why they’re always there/getting minutes, then it’s a bigger structural issue for recruitment.

Hopefully Dest has an less-conspiracy theory reason for begging off this time and is leaving it open for the next, but it’s a bad omen to be missing the first round of important matches when Pulisic and McKinnie are coming in.

I’ve never been a Jesse Marsch fan but I’m starting to think his fire and enthusiasm for leading a competitive team may be a better answer than Berhalter. He just wants to win. I can stomach his other awful characteristics while he hopefully makes good on that.
