NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

That will affect some. But LA has all those taxes and it's still a draw. As I said, each destination has pluses and minuses. I maintain, give us a SSS and we are competitive with both of those.
Will be more competitive than we currently are, but taxes and weather are much bigger pulls than we will be - it takes a special personality to appreciate the magnitude of NYC with the density and chaos.

Ownership will also be a factor. CFG runs their ship like a sanitized business versus the other three ownership groups that run things like prized clubs where breaking the bank is merely a question of “by how much” - AEG has consistently worked the MLS rules to their benefit and has the biggest star player, LAFC has owners that cater to the fans needs, lets the manager get what he wants, and has an insane stadium/fan presence, and FC Beckham is gearing up to be the Miami Vice of Star power and owner backing.

As a player, which looks most enticing?

I had a Japanese kid in my school - Japanese - who, when I told him I'm going to see NYCFC play, responded with 'WAIT!!!! Pirlo plays for them right?! Omg I wish I could see Pirlo..." And when I told him he doesn't play too much because he's not as good anymore, his reply way "but... but it's Pirlo! I wanna go see Pirlo!"

Couldn't agree more with this part.

The day I drop my tickets, it will be because I just can't stomach our owners anymore.

I still think lots of people with deep pockets love NYC. But the ownership issue you raise is likely a big deal for many choosing a destination.

That said, LAFC, LAG and MIA can't sign all the players.

Anyone else pissed off about this?

This guy is elite. He’ll be elite for another 2 years. Especially with MLS players challenging him. You’d think CFG would try to get him to NYCFC if he’s showing even the slightest interest in going to MLS. Hell, one of his former coaches is here.
I’m pretty sure we all know why he won’t be coming here. We’re cheap. We’re not willing to spend money.
He's one of my favorite players going back almost a decade now, when I saw him enter a match at Blackpool where City were being dominated (imagine that, Blackpool dominating City, they sucked at defending but were fun to watch and what a cool little ground) and his entry completely changed the match. He's a City Legend...you'd hope they might want to keep him in the family. This really depresses me.

he's going to chicago or DC. no more basti or rooney at those clubs... so they have a DP spot open. We are already loaded up top, so unlikely we sign another forward. I don't think Miami can afford so many big names. Red bulls could make a move for him, but that's less likely than chicago or DC, i think.

It’s like you read my mind. I’ll just add that I can’t see NYC making any moves for an expensive striker when they’ve figured out the secret for cheap goals. Hoping Dome has more input into who fits his system going forward. As I’ve said before I’m not afraid of losing Parks and Ofori if we can open up a DP spot to take that spot. Though in a perfect world we sign a DP and Parks for depth.

I think signing a solid DP and Parks would be great, but then who sits? Obviously, the goal would be to sign a high performing DP who will contribute to the team's style and elevate us to another level. But then, who sits? If Parks plays, most likely Sands sits. If we sign a solid DP, then both Parks AND Sands sit. Is there a solid DP out there who is sitting to sit on the bench if Dome decides Parks or Sands is a better fit for a particular game? Lots of questions. The only way we get a solid DP and have Parks (if we sign him too) and Sands on the field, all at once, is if the DP slot takes the LWB position and we end up offloading Sweat and have Mata as the backup for both LWB and LW.

Would be an interesting pick up for one of those teams. I don't like him for our team. His production has really dropped off. This isn't like Villa or Ibra or Rooney - who all notched double-digit goals their last year* before transferring to MLS. Giroud hasn't gotten 10 EPL goals in the last 2+ seasons, although he did do well in the Europa League last year.

___
* - Or, in Ibra's case, his last healthy season.

Also remember we have a ton of mid-week matches on a condensed schedule. CCL. USOC. And other possible cup competitions I won’t mention for the sake of not jinxing the team. We need the depth. They will all get plenty of minutes. A DP might even appreciate not having to shuffle off the Minneapolis or Portland on a Wednesday.

also, maybe Dome has another formation up his sleeve for next season.

As a Chelsea fan that's watched most of their games, I think a properly motivated Giroud (and as far as I know nobody has ever questioned his work ethic or motivation) would rip up MLS. He is truly excellent, but just slightly below the level of the PL. He is exceptional with his head, holds the ball up very well and always happy to lay off the ball to someone else for an easy goal.

11 goals and 5 assists in 14 Europa League games last year. Even the early round patsies would be better than most MLS teams.

I'm surprised he would come here rather than play for a non-Elite team in France, Belgium or Spain.
