Toronto (Home, Playoffs) - Postmatch

In 2016 we had a 25 page thread about STH enrollment gifts, one of which was a backpack with 10-12 giant garish zipper fobs, each with an enormous NYCFC logo.

I really wish I got 2 messenger bags. I can't believe not one person in the office looked at the backpack and said "Um, do you think maybe 10 logofobs is a bit much?"

There was one play in the second half that I want to go back and look at around the 59'. I don't want to go full tilt into an opinion on it yet, because my angle wasn't the best, and I haven't seen the replay, but...

Mitrita I thought was fouled from behind on a decent break-away (not in on goa per-se, but things were looking to lead to a decent chance), that I thought would result in a yellow card and if I'm remembering correctly, I thought the ref motioned advantage, but then the ball went forward and to the feet of one of our attackers in an offsides position. And instead of bringing the ball back to where the foul was committed and issuing a yellow, he awarded TFC a free kick for the offsides.

Does anyone remember this or have a better understanding of what happened here? I do want to rewatch before I decide to get upset about it (though I didn't have that patience last night at the game), but it seemed to me like it was a pretty egregious decision.
I went back to watch this and it was pretty much as you describe. Mitrita was fouled and simultaneously played the ball to Matarrita who was in an offside position. The TV viewpoint does not confirm what the ref signaled because he is not visible and the announcer does not say he played advantage. In fact the announcer seems a bit confused that the ref failed to call either of 2 potential fouls (that one and one moments earlier on Taty). But I remain pretty certain I saw the ref signal advantage live. If so, the advantage was instantaneously nullified and I think we should have had a free kick. Another possibility is the ref decided the offside pass preceded the foul which would nullify the foul, but that seems even more wrong given the timing of things.

I haven't gone back to watch either, but one question I have is why Tinnerholm was shut down as a creative attacking force.
I think it's because we didn't really control the ball for long stretches of the match. We generally bring Tinny into the game by drawing the opposition defense to the left side with the ball and then ditching it wide. If we can't do that, he's not generally the kinda guy to beat a man on the dribble himself or even orchestrate a passing combination himself to beat a path forward.

There were a couple times in the first half when we attacked up the left side and then put a beautiful ball into space on the right side near the box, but neither Tinnerholm, nor Isi were anywhere to be found.

Yeah I was thinking about adding something about this to my last post but I thought it would be condescending.

But I think the lack of control also contributes to this - it's riskier to make that forward run if you're not sure if the ball is coming or being retained. I can imagine that after long periods of not being able to bank on controlling the ball, the appetite for those risky runs decreases or goes dormant too.

I too, can't watch footage from the game or else the feeling of sickness I had when I saw Mata lunge into the tackle will be back. However I keep on replaying his and Chanot's fuckups when my brain isn't occupied with something else and I get mad all over again.
Seriously what the fuck?

YMMV, but I tell myself that the skills I develop to cope with these unexplainable and crushing acts of self sabotage will prepare me to better deal with the capricious nature of our existence.

Has anybody gotten their refund for the conference final match we paid for but never played in?

i was never charged for the conf. final as far as i can tell. i only have one charge for the semi-final and one for 2020 membership.

I really want to index this entire season away in the prior seasons subfolder.

I apologize if anyone reads this and it opens up wounds. I had the game recorded on FUBO for months and couldn't bear to watch it after seeing the debacle live so I deleted the recording. After wandering the forums trying to feed the monkey I started to watch bits of old match's and after a while decided I reached a point of being able to review the Playoff debacle. In real time I had formed the opinion that:
1. NYCFC seemed lost in the first half
2. NYCFC was good in the second half and had the momentum going forward in the event of OT.
Those opinions didn't really change other than I really think NYCFC should have won that game in the second half.
Mata had some really good moments before this meltdown. He placed a ball from fairly deep that Heber would most likely have put in the back of the net if it wasn't for Taty making the reception from an offside position. There was another great long ball I believe from Maxi that Taty was offsides for as well.
I looked at the stats from the game and NYCFC had 8 offsides to Toronto's 1.

Maybe this was all covered months ago. It was interesting to be able to let the pain of the loss go and take another look at the match.
