CFG is trying to get a stadium done at probably the hardest time in memory to get the government on board with a stadium and in the city where there is the least possible space available to build one. And this is also for a sport that doesn't have broad public support. It's been really hard and is getting worse. This isn't 10 years ago when Bloomberg was happy giving away subsidies for big projects. CFG are going to have to bite down and do this without subsidies - and probably with a sweetener.
This situation that CFG finds itself in is the equivalent of going into an apartment open house on the first day on the market and not only making an all-cash offer, but adding 10% to the asking price to entice an immediate acceptance.

Then why bother doing anything if you already have painted the situation in to the corner as a lost cause?

If this team does not get a stadium, it will wither and die. Co-sharing with baseball is a morphine drip that keeps the patient alive while slowly killing them over an extended & indefinite time.

I’m not talking a certain set of people who will always complain. They are professional complainers

People will still lie and complain that a public space will be used for private good. You’re not dealing with good faith actors here
And they'd be correct.

If you're gonna launder a reputation that bad you're gonna have to pay extra.
How is paying for everything and a bunch of extra stuff a win for CFG? I’m not accepting “they have so much money” as an explanation.
If that was a useful point, the stadium would be built already.

They should expect to receive exactly as much municipal help as any other enterprise creating any comparable development would. And that’s a number higher than zero.

Rich people don’t get (or stay) rich because they enter into unfavorable financial transactions.
Here's an explanation - they have the money but they think they won't have to pay. Because they didn't work so hard for that sovereign wealth to just fritter it away.

In any case, the win is that they can own and sponsor and utilize a team that doesn't look like a tire fire in order to associate shiny happy feelings with Abu Dhabi and distract from basic human rights atrocities and regional agitation.

Rich people get and stay rich mostly due to having begun with a capital advantage. In some cases they actually get and stay rich by providing value to society (specifically the parts of society that have the means to reward the production of what they value) but I'm not sure that's the case with our ownership.

Yep. You only get one shot at making an impression.

You just need to look at NYRB to see what our future looks like if we dont get a stadium soon.

Huge day today. Going to be lots of reporting from the meeting, I'd assume. Wonder if any presentations will be made public for us to go over.
It isn't clear quite yet what will be presented publicly today. They just mentioned that their "findings" will be presented. Who knows what that means in terms of form of delivery, and if they'll provide "all" of their findings.

One thing to look out for though, is their report will be published afterwards. It was mentioned that this would be in the "coming weeks", so not sure if that means 2 weeks, or 7 weeks. But their reports will usually end up on their website.

Here is an example one from the Hunts Point TAP performed in March of this year.

I'm assuming the report will likely be provided to the Community Board much earlier than when it makes it up on the website. I've had their "Recent TAPs" page open as a tab for a few months now, waiting for the Hunts Point one to be provided (it was mentioned as "Coming Soon" for a while) and it didn't make it up there until maybe a month or so ago.

Don't think Ian would be involved in stadium developments? But could be wrong. Maybe he's recording the new goal sound for 2020... Subway sound and then Ian going.. "he's absolutely Savage"

"Private Event"

We know from his tweet today that he is at a Club facility or office. Safe to presume that is the "Private Event" - given that "big things" are "happening".

None of those phrases naturally infer that he is working or recording a video, but maybe.

I agree "event" is an odd choice of word for a video session, but I don't think they host big parties at the club offices on Wednesday afternoons either, and a press conference wouldn't be private. What else do we have as options?

Very likely this may be coupled with the ULINewYork Technical Assistance Panel they began yesterday and concludes today. That was mentioned in the Outfield article. That’s what I’m thinking..

It’s an office Halloween party where they all dress up as full kit wankers in next year’s kit with a championship star over the badge.
