2020 Roster Discussion

Much of the player grumbling about TAM with regards to the CBA has been american players complaining that it screws them over because it incentivizes teams to buy foreign players rather than paying the domestic players more. Most articles I've read about the new CBA advocate for more simplified rules but we all know that's not the MLS way. Could be possible that they trying to address these complaints by adding some other pot of money/rule set/roster mechanism targeted at increasing money for American players and NYCFC is using this new mechanism to cover the Parks costs.

its gonna be called DAMN- Domestic Allocation Money Needs

My reading into this is that we've come to some sort of agreement with Benfica based on a few scenarios of the new CBA, but we can't make anything public until CBA agreements are in place. Either more AM, 4th DP spot, we move Medina, we move another play for AM, etc. More moves may need to get done before we can make this happen outside of the CBA.

I don't it's really that complicated of a situation. He is going to be a (just barely) TAM player. If they combine GAM and TAM into a single pot of allocation money, it's really just a label change.

Also keep in mind that Ofori was making $400k in compensation, so it is not going to requirement tremendous amount more of cap resources to make this move.

We paid Parks $150k last year but we have no idea how much Benfica was paying him - his salary could just as easily be a lot higher than our cap charge, since the loan came from Benfica and not MCFC (where we’d have to take the full wage charge).

With Ofori, his club may not have been willing to pay much of his salary, hence why we had a $400k charge. Some teams see the value of paying for playing time/development while others see it as a rental agreement that they shouldn’t be on the hook for if they aren’t directly benefiting.

I’d be surprised if Parks isn’t making north of $500k base salary, as a young US pool player who earned a starting spot, and then add in his transfer fee. And add he’s gonna demand a big bump in salary for agreeing to the transfer and leaving Benfica - that’s a career decision that will require financial insurance with a bump in salary.

Maybe I'm just frustratedly simplifying things but why not just say we signed him? Don't need to talk about whether we are using allocation money. And if there is a perceived need to talk to that, then say the details are held up by the outcome of the CBA.

Maybe the CBA is close, but there's still a chance of it not being signed, which would mean delayed/no league season..... would think Parks' agent has clause terminating transfer/contract if CBA isn't signed as who wants to sit out a season.....

That would make total sense. And also would make total sense if they announced and then had to announce that his contract is terminated because of that.

The second option is exactly what I expect from NYCFC (see Frank Lampard), so quite surprised they (if this is the issue) had the ability to deviate from their standard operating procedure.

We're doing things to solidify what we had in 2019. I'm still waiting on moves to bolster that heading into 2020. If Jesus Medina is still on the roster (and isn't producing on the field) by the time the playoffs come around, then the front office is doing their best to contend for a title.

Who are these people? Are they his family? If not, who are they? If they knew the announcement was coming, why do they seem so shocked? If they didn’t know, why gather around the computer filming yourself?
