2020 Roster Discussion

I would be ok sacrificing CCL to get our guys some reps but let Scally and Haak feature.

and give up the chance to be North America Champions ( not like atlanta who self proclaimed themselves that after winning campeones cup...lol) and have the bragging rights as being first to win it and piss off the rest of league because we play on baseball stadiums?

I do believe we have a strong lineup and if properly coached and motivated we can lift the cup. That last part is what seems to be missing. We’re just not up for it sometimes.

Well, Ronny's reputation is as a bit of a mental, and he certainly doesn't lack any passion, so fingers crossed that's the piece of the puzzle we were looking for.

I meant any big splash signings.

I like the confidence.
I would, however, feel more assured if we sign some other talent for 2020.

Someone to add creativity in the final third?
A skilled midfielder?
A quality left back?

Standing pat with the squad as is while adding a new coach is not the formula that I would use in hopes of raising the cup.
Looking back on last season and considering injuries, game congestion, rotation, games played against 10 man squads, Tinnerholms workload, defensive lapses... I think we were fortunate to win the east. I think the 2020 campaign is going to be tougher than 2019.

It’s a tricky business putting the right pieces together. Hoping there is some work being done scouting players who could fit into this team and make the whole team stronger.

I don't read Lee's quotes to mean anything other than we shouldn't expect new signings this window. I think we'll assess and make moves in the summer, particularly in light of a new CBA.

And btw, you can listen to both David Lee and Ronny Deila on the media call in full on the most recent episode of Blue City Radio

Quite often especially January window's transfers are a chain of moves. Selling a player means you need a replacement. Those who are wanted change clubs before the end of January, and those who are let to move after the window closes are not wanted by their clubs, and often not wanted by anybody. Basically that means that the players who would strengthen NYCFC should be signed during the European window. I have no idea about how it works between the MLS / Central & South American leagues.
I think you meant, “Oh, I didn’t realize that. Good to know.”

LAG brought in Chicharito.

It would be nice to exchange Medina for a good player too
Saw today that the LAG said their tix sales are way ahead of where they were last year and the jump occurred/coincided with his announcement/signing.

There isn't anybody out there who could have the same effect in NYC that chicharito has in LA. Not anybody we could actually bring in, anyway...

we couldn’t afford pulisic. But i wonder what the transfer fee is for young American phenom Gio Reyna? He would sure be fun to watch in NY and drum up interest here and aboard.

Nobody would care about Gio if he were here. Nobody cares about Jimmy (present company excepted) and he’s one of the best in his cohort. For whatever reason, the NYCFC brand kills hype more ruthlessly than LAG kills pigeons

The only question is if he can get service and good passes from LAG teammates. I didnt watch much of them last year but they kinda felt counter attackish tea, well see. But Hes no vela that he will make his own plays and people should not expect that.

All the Spanish channels keep talking about chicharito....I'm sure it will get packed. Would have preferred to see Zlatan, but seeing stadium packed is great too. Prob as high as a Derby game or more

There will be bump because he is more widely kmowm than vela, even though vela is the better player
