they already played in CT the brand has taken a hit already. its more this round and not a liga mx team where they didnt want to pay big money for a citi or use one of the alloted games at YS

Sorry but a massive difference between playing in Hartford and New Jersey. When your whole reason for existence is that you’re NOT the team in NJ that pretends to be from New York, you just can’t do this

I live and work in Manhattan and still won't go to Harrison. 6pm kickoff is too early for that shit.

In mid-day, it’s an hour and 15 from my office on the NY/CT border. Can’t imagine what it would be at 4:30. And the parking there is atrocious.

true but here is where we are, there is no stadium and the baseball stadium not going to open, if twitter is believed they thought of CT again but wanted more "local" so they went to RBA. honestly yes it kills the brand more but this is a game that was not going to be attended well in the start anyway.

the death of the brand is a league/ playoff/ final played at RBA....honestly we are not that far off from that.

erm... what?

sharing a stadium with RBA for league games ? ( im assuming thats what he was alluding to) yes i think thats the start of the end of the little support we have, its not huge numbers.

ah, who cares?! let them talk shit all they want - they still hang on the 7-0 scoreline from 4 years ago because they don't have anything else that's more recent - they'll talk shit about this, yet they didn't even make the CCL this year - I just really don't understand the obsession about their fans

I agree, they are getting pretty short on talking points and clinging to the few they have left at this point. They lost the heart of their team in less than 3 years, Marsch, Dax, Kljestan, BWP gone. They lost their promising young guys in Adams and Lawrence with Long likely gone next. They have nothing to cling to other than 7-0 that happened years ago and a stadium in NJ. They can't even use the farm team line anymore after Adams and Marsch. Let them have their nonsense talking points the current trajectory of the two clubs couldn't be more different.

RBA is a pain to get to for many of us so I can understand that gripe but who cares what RB fans think or say about us playing a game in their stadium in a tournament they weren't good enough the qualify for.

Two possibilities that would make sense.
  1. The Yankees (and Mets) don't want to open up their stadium in February for some reason - maybe because of the grass or because the grounds crew can't be called in to work on it.
  2. There is a really big difference in rental costs between one of the baseball stadiums and Red Bull Arena, and it's not worth opening the big stadiums for a crowd that might not break a few thousand. This seemed to be the obvious issue when we were looking at the Cyclones' stadium (7,000) or St. John's (2,100). But, Red Bull Arena is very much larger than those two (25,000) - just over half the capacity of the baseball stadiums vs. one-seventh or less. It seems a stretch to believe that the rent is so much lower.
Doesn’t the town own the stadium? I’m sure they are willing to negotiate a fair price because *any* revenue is more than they’d otherwise be receiving. They aren’t trying to be corporate assholes like the Yankees, they’re probably trying to balance their books and this will be a positive impact for them.

Imagine being a RB fan. Are you happy about this so you can throw jabs at us or pissed off that your money hungry ownership even allowed this to happen?
I don’t think it’s much better for them either.
But yeah we’re a joke still.

My first thought is that this is being forced on NYCFC by CONCACAF or MLS. There is like a 5% chance they decided this would be a good idea. I can't imagine they wanted to do this, and I'm very interested to see the quotes in the press release to see how positive they are, or if they admit that this wasn't really something they wanted to do. Frankly, I'm a little shocked the Yankees wouldn't let them use Yankee Stadium for this game. If the other option was RBA, why not go back to the Yankees and try to play it there.

We can take this as a negative, and it is. Or we can decide to embarrass the Red Bulls by getting higher attendance than they got for their CCL match last year. I think they did somewhere in the 3,000 range -- so let's do better than them. You want banter? Let's bring 5-6,000 fans to this game. We can either just accept their insults, or we can do something about it. Let's pack their stadium for our game.

As a show of good will, the club should have buses ready for those who need it and free tickets for members. It's a tough location at a difficult time for many who work in this area.
