No they just have to deal with their Best XI CB being traded right before their Champions League matches for half of the transfer fee we got for our backup RB who has never played an MLS minute (and is available to us).

that >>>>>> our situation

Brad Sims has made it pretty clear in the various interviews that this was CONCACAF's decision, and further that they weren't willing to give us any other option. Last week I would have agreed with TRL. This week, with all we've learned, it's pretty obvious Brad and the team is completely furious with this decision and just trying to make the best of it.

I am not sure why anyone would assume playing at RBA is the fault of the Club at all. This is CONCACAF and everyone should assume the problem is with CONCACAF and not the NYCFC FO. The Club is probably still negotiating with CONCACAF about YS in March and can't come right out and say "we are playing in RBA because CONCACAF is a bunch of a**holes". That's the message I heard from the FO between the lines and it rings true to me. I have been keeping my afternoon free for months to be able to go to the game even if we kick ass in San Carlos and the outcome of the tie is not in doubt.
It’s strange because TR leadership spoke to their members about the situation and told them this is in no way shape or form the clubs fault. Now if we had a stadium we wouldn’t be in this situation but Concacaf turned down our proposals and Yankee/Mets stadiums weren’t available for any event. So RBA was our only option. For them to still boycott after admitting the club had no option is a bit strange.

Yes, the group committed to supporting the team on the field chooses emotion over reason to the detriment of the team on the field.

I agree with you 100%. Not making it cause you can't get out of work or something is one thing... But a supporter group pulling this is bad form. You'd never see the 3252 doing this shit.

I think this is a pretty unique situation, with important principles at play, and it would challenge any fanbase (including those like the 3252, who've had everything on a plate since day 1). I don't believe in absolutes, and I support anyone who wants to go to the game. But if anything I think the TR has been a little shy in taking stances on important issues, and I'm glad they're doing it here. Some things are more important than 'support the team no matter what'.

Pretty unique and pretty awful. I agree that folks should go or stay away based upon how they feel, and I understand all perspectives. With that said, a boycott is a symbolic absolute by the only supporter group directed at the FO and the team, which I am not sure serves much purpose assuming the FO truly did all/most in their power to avoid this. It is complex though, I just don't think a boycott is the way to go.

The boycott could also directed at CONCACAF. If they thought this wouldn't be a big deal, we want our game at this stadium, it'll be great -- this could be a wake-up call for them, too.

Or CONCACAF doesn't give a s---, which is likely. But how embarrassing will it be for them when 300 fans go to this game? That's pretty humiliating for them.

That’s because boycotting is what “true supporters” do. Let’s be real they’re only doing this to show everyone their passion and didn’t think this through at all.

A boycott's purpose is to change behavior. What behavior will the boycotters be trying to change here? Will this boycott change CONCACAF's behavior? Doubt it. Will it make NYCFC's desire for a stadium any more urgent? Probably not possible. So in a best-case scenario, what do the organizers think this will achieve?

It's protest without purpose. And dare I say a bunch of people flexing how important they are.

Regardless of where you fall on this particular issue, this is a pretty depressing way to look at the concept of protest.

I’m on the go to the game side (and not spend a penny inside the stadium). But I can see the TR’s hope that CONCACAF will lose out on enough concession and ticket $ that they will realize 5-10,000 fans at St. John’s buying drinks and food would be a more profitable decision in the future. There is a purpose to this. Also, it will look terrible on TV and should embarrass CONCACAF as well.

I just feel bad bc this is the coaching staff and some new players first ever meaningful “home” match and our club’s first foray into international competition. And this is how we embrace them/it as a fan base? I’m hope our fans in CR as super loud and supportive. Maybe a TIFO that tells them we love them even if we’re not there next week. And we can win 5-0 and just forfeit the home leg like LionNYC LionNYC suggested and still advance. That’s the ultimate FU to CONCACAF if we can and i hope the FO has the balls to do it.

Concacaf is going to intentionally delay any decision approving Yankee Stadium until after the 2/26 match to keep us from doing that.

I get what your saying, but maybe I didn’t communicate exactly what I meant to communicate. I didn’t mean don’t protest if you don’t think it will work right away — that is depressing. But who are they actually protesting against, whose behavior are they trying to change and in what way would this particular protest affect that change? The answers are not clear.
It seems to me that people are more angry that the game is at RBA than they are about it not being at Yankee Stadium

There’s no adversary here — NYCFC are on the same side of this as those boycotting. We don’t need to change their desire for a new stadium because they already agree with us. They want a new stadium. They’re giving away the tickets, so it’s barely even clear what impact this would have on them if they were on the other side of the issue.

There’s been a late call for boycotting concessions (perhaps driven by the realization that boycotting the game achieves no goals), and that’s fine but based on the possibility that CONCACAF owns the concessions (which I doubt).

What is the ideal way this plays out to the protestors? The dream scenario? If because of this, someone announces something that satisfies the protest, what would that thing be and does this protest make that thing more likely?

I’m struggling with a reasonable analogy, but maybe this is like boycotting Yankee games because you’re pissed that MLB didn’t more heavily penalize the Astros for cheating?

Hopefully supporters will find a way to show up to this match even if for only a half. The time and place is not ideal for me (St. Johns would be even less convenient) and I'm guessing it will be close to uncomfortably cold but I'm going to show up and support the team with a friend who doesn't even follow soccer but is excited to experience the match.
The Third Rail claims to "want to be the electricity that powers... the players on the pitch." The basis of this boycott seems to be primarily based on years of frustration with CFG and the rivalry with the Red Bulls. The only real effect the boycott will have is to deny the team the support Third Rail claims to provide as well as show the world of soccer that football fans in New York are a sensitive and fair weathered bunch.
I give credit to the organization (the exception not the rule) for giving STH's free tickets to the match.
I keep thinking that wearing a NYCFC jersey with ETHIAD emblazoned across the chest shows a complicity and submission to CFG far more than boycotting one game because it's at Red Bull Arena.
I hope supporters planning on boycotting will reconsider as you will be missed by the the team and the rest of the NYCFC fanbase.
Peace be with NYCFC fans.

I want to go - just can't find anywhere to get a ticket.

give it some time. tickets should go on sale soon. season ticket holders haven't even gotten any information about how to claim their ticket yet. so just be on the looking out for that and i'm sure general ticket sales will follow.

INJURY UPDATE:

Crooks said Chanot injured in nose during the Inter Miami game but has removed his mask for today's training. He also said ITS was injured but is now training with the team and will travel to CR, but will not play.

What else is going on here!?!?! I feel so left in the dark. I need an injury report and a CCL preview interview with Ronny.

NYCFC kind of went Radio silent after the California trip as far any actual soccer being played. They did however release something about Valentines Day in the Bronx.

yea i saw. i was surprised to see the inside training video yesterday but that's not enough. we need some actual reports. there are clearly injuries that we don't know about. would be nice if crooks went through and gave us more information.

Completely radio silent. Frankly they kind of went quiet after the Florida tournament. We got the Orange County game update, then they've acted as if they never even played games they announced as being a part of. It's been a super-weird offseason and preseason. You'd think they'd want to be building excitement for Thursday, but you'd never know our season starts in four days if you're just following the team on social media.
