NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

With no games basically anywhere, FIFA needs to do the right thing and open up the transfer window so we have something to talk about.
I know you’re kidding, but Teams aren’t gonna pull the trigger on players in the middle of the outbreak when not knowing their risk to infection.

It’s becoming obvious to me that dozens, if not hundreds of clubs around the world are going to go out of business during this pandemic.

I don’t believe any clubs in MLS will go out of business due to the relatively low wage structure and wealth of the owners. I wonder if the league will use this as an opportunity to really become a league of choice.

"League of Choice" is a term used by Don Garber in when referring to international players coming to MLS. There will definitely be leagues and clubs folding because of the lack of gate revenue, especially lower tier leagues, if not supported by their federation and/or government.

What kind of player do you think will be more inclined to come to MLS now than before? What would have been the alternative destination in lieu of MLS?

I'm not quite sure of any league's as a whole, but certainly many clubs will be unable to spend like before. Clubs that may have been troubled to begin with especially will be shedding payroll. I'd expect more opportunities for MLS clubs to acquire/win players from some South American and second tier European league clubs. Especially those who don't have tv revenue as a backstop.

i dont know, i feel some of the owners will rather cut their losses and let the MLS team go if it gets to that. I mean look at RSL the dude was very willing to let people go right away and only pulled back a bit after being exposed. CFG/RB have teams around the world so maybe they can mitigate losses. but other teams may have owners with their focus on their main business and stop funding teams.

Also, there could be concern with the expansion teams.....are the ownership groups still all in? do they have the money and capital after this is all over? TV money may not be huge as some expect it to be.

everything is up in the air.

Did the CBA get finalized/ratified, because if it didn't........ it may be back to the negotiating table......

I think you’ll see dozens of second and third tier clubs go out of business throughout Europe. And in some smaller leagues like Portugal and Holland and Belgium, some first tier clubs.
Less teams mean more players available. That drives down wages and transfer fees.
So I’m thinking more Hebers as a baseline.

true, but i think you are also assuming everything stays same in MLS, which is no guarantee either.

It's worded kind of oddly. "one Eastern Conference club has already declined an approach from Bale's people."

So that doesn't read like a team was interested in Bale and ultimately decided he was too expensive (which, him being too expensive could still very well be the deciding factor). This reads more like there was a particular team that Bale was interested in going to (whether or not interest was reciprocated at all), so they reached out to the team to see if they wanted to move forward with a transfer.
