COVID-19 - Leagues Suspended

why wouldn't it?

i gotta ask the owners of the one near me....they closed their doors. i guess they assumed it was not essential. the one that is farther from me is still open i think. its gonna get crowded in there........kinda going against the whole point of this.

My wife and I bought a small hand-cranked clothes washer to use for the duration of this.

I'm still at work today here in Connecticut. They've furloughed people but not everyone and their waiting for the determination on if we're considered non essential or not.

I wish NYCFC would update the eCalendar to remove the postponed games. I realize they don't have a new date for them, and I understand their preference not to delete them and maybe give the wrong impression, but the reminders I'm getting from my Calendar app are just depressing.

Mine removed them automatically. I got a calendar notification saying they were being removed.

I sync the games with my calendar using stanza

Thanks. I forget how mine is set up. I know it used to be eCal and they later switched to Stanza. I thought I switched but maybe not. I might just unsubscribe and then reconnect whenever they resume.

ETA: While figuring out how to delete the subscription on my phone, I found that i was indeed via Stanza. Why yours and mine worked differently is a small mystery I don't care enough to solve.

Our e-sports player just beat the Whitecaps e-sports player in today's first round. e-MLS streaming now.
FYII we have 2 specific eSports threads:

couldn’t they lay people off so that they can claim unemployment

They could, but then they wouldn't be able to keep their health insurance.

Someone I know closely works in the travel industry and their company recently announced some pretty large furloughs for a period of time. My friend didn't happen to be one of those furloughed, but they mentioned that those that were being furloughed were able to keep the health insurance they had through their employer.

so its been speculated how hard the US soccer leagues will be hit with this. Looks like RSL was going to layoff a bunch of staff but then changed their mind.

i think the USL/NISA leagues are really going to be hurting.
So having rich owners means nothing if they’re not willing to support their staff in times if need.

It's just so nauseating. I understand that the teams aren't making any money right now, but sports owners are billionaires. Surely they can handle having a little bit of red in their bottom line for 2-3 months until we can get back on our feet. It's happening in other sports, too, and it's just as ridiculous there. Seeing billionaires cry poor after just two weeks of this, while the rest of us all have bills to pay is farcical.

Who owns RSL? Not clear whether that’s one of the legacy MLS owners who are less wealthy than some of the newer owners.
Every MLS owner has deep pockets, some deeper than others, and all have been sucking at SUM’s teat for years. If the owners aren’t willing to support their staff, then they’re greedy assholes that don’t deserve to own a vanity business.

1. I'm a worrier, not a warrior. I've been check my temperature three times a day even though it's never been above 99.0 during the past 90 days. I do have a cough, but I think that's more due to stress and anxiety.

2. Most singular sporting events (i.e. Kentucky Derby, French Open) have been postponed until September.

3. This isn't going to be better by May 10.

4. NBA may play its playoffs behind closed doors in a single area in Las Vegas, Nevada. ESPN suggested that MLB play a 32 game regular season in September/October and then have the playoffs.

With that all said...

I don't think we're getting a 34 game regular season of MLS. Maybe 24 games, most of them are closed door.
