MLS is Back Tournament - 2020

The friendly is scheduled for July 4th. There has been no communication that the match has been cancelled.

It's been canceled. They're not allowed to play another team, even in a friendly, unless they're in the bubble for seven days.

So if a player tests positive are they quarantined in their hotel room for 14 days?

The whole point of a bubble is that no one gets covid inside the bubble. That basically goes out the window - wouldn’t you have to quarantine both the positives plus everyone else they have had contact with in the prior 2 weeks - or basically the entire club from which this player tested positive.

Oh boy.

With us getting down there so late, how many positive tests will it take for us to be forced out?

Who knows, maybe we are using a less accurate test provider up here and MLS has a better one and all of a sudden we got 8 positives.

But there can be bubbles inside of bubbles

Whoever put together the logistics of this “bubble” should be fired. They didn’t include an intermediate “airlock” quarantine before entering the bubble, much like security doors/vestibule to get into a secure lab or facility. Every team should have had a 2-3 week quarantine prior to entering the bubble. That gives enough time for incubation to show as active virus before entering the “clean” area “bubble.” Not having it is missing a key step and QC.

Now if the virus was transmitted by one of the many Disney employees not confined to the bubble, but who comes in contact with the players/food/areas, well, that’s just further proof the concept was fatally flawed from the onset.

No Disney staff can have direct contact with any players or staff. Here is a description of the bubble from a photographer who almost went but didn't.
What little I know is that they are really taking safety seriously. I believe there are three zones. Zone 1 is likely just the players, technical staffs, match officials, and only a few operations staff - people who are allowed to be in the same place and same time as players. Zone 2 is where most of the non-player folks are. They can be in the same places, but not at the same time. Had I gone, I would've been in Zone 2. I'm guessing some of the camera operators, and match day operations and team non-technical staffs will be in Zone 2. And I think the number of folks operating at this level has shrunk since the tournament was first set up. I'm guessing (and it is only a guess) that that is the main "bubble"

Out side of that would be Zone 3. Those are they only other people allowed in the facility. Media (including less than 10 outside photographers/videographers total) will be restricted to one small corner of the stadium. In the end I'm not going as I, even working for the league, wouldn't have rated Zone 2 and freer access around the field - due to the decreased head count at that level. I would guess most of the grounds crew, sanitation crews, and anyone not "inside the bubble" would be Zone 3.

I wish I were going, but I do think they're spooked by the Covid numbers in Florida (and around the country right now). It sounds like operationally, the tournament will be on a skeleton crew inside the bubble with as much as humanly possible being done either remotely or without physical access to the players.

Also, while the players have only had restrictions, they have not been quarantined from their families. While far from a total quarantine, they have been tested numerous times already and all will be tested twice more in the 24 hours before leaving for Florida. Once in Florida, they can't come in contact with other teams for 7 days, they will likely have at least 4 tests before that 7 days is up.

You still haven’t apologized to me.

Contact with players or not, Germs live on surfaces. That’s science.

4 players tested positive in the bubble while in contact with their teammates. The protocols are flawed. That’s a fact.

The positives were part of the intake screening when they arrived. It's not exactly accurate to say they got it inside the bubble.
Whether at intake or afterwards, they are part of the bubble, and have been, from the time of the test to the time of the results. There is zero chance they haven’t interacted with other players.

Honesty does not require an apology. You owe apologies to many current and former members of this site, but i've made my point and have no further need to discuss it.

I'd imagine there will be intense disinfecting of any of the few surfaces non-bubble people come in contact with.

The only non-flawed protocol would be a.) Not play at all (I don't think anybody but a small number of players are in favor of this or b.) Put every player in a clean room by themselves for a month until kickoff.
Anything other than that has to have a reasonable risk.

They shouldnt play at all is sounding like a great option IMHO.

Anybody that thinks I owe them an apology can discuss it directly with me. They haven’t, but you’re using it as a straw man after calling me a prick and an asshole and being called out for it by LionNYC LionNYC

Hypocrisy is still a hell of a drug for you, as is logic & science since 4 players tested positive and have been living in the bubble in contact with their team(s), but you fail to see that as a problem and haven’t shown how it can be construed as an acceptable risk.

I've never said anything is acceptable. The players agreed to this format and pushed for a shorter Florida period. Now that we are seeing positive tests, it's up to the players and league to determine what is acceptable going forward. They may call it all off today, or they may go forward, it's not up to you or I.
My point was im not sure the players would have agreed to a stricter system, and I also believe they preferred this instead of waiting even longer to play. It's a non-zero risk scenario, just like the rest of the still working population. They all put this "flawed" system together, but im sure they all understood the risks it came with and have certain thresholds for calling it off.

Edit: and as far as the first part goes, I don't disagree that calling you out was inappropriate, but I also haven't heard anyone disagree with the substance, you were an increasingly net-negative contributor to this site. I simply chose to put it out there, others unfortunately left the site altogether and the discussions have suffered because of it.
