Expansion Rumors Megathread

Huh.

"This is likely the last expansion team in Major League Soccer." - Garber

We’ll see. Even if they expand more later, I could see it making sense to pause for now, with 6 expansion teams joining over the next 3 seasons, and coming up on the TV deal. They probably have enough to keep themselves busy at HQ. I’d anticipate the TV deal determines the next round of expansion (if any)

Garber retires after the 2022 season. New commissioner welcomes two new expansion teams in 2024, for fees upwards of $500 million so there's 32 teams ready for World Cup 2026 USA/CAN/MEX where soccer will rocket in terms of popularity after USA wins the World Cup. I'm ready.

Yuck....i don't like any of those.

I actually kind of liked Fortune. Of the remaining, I guess Town is my favorite, even though Charlotte is nothing like a town.

i know its a "city" but when i went there did not feel like that at all and i was in the downtown area for a couple of days. so yes my nyc bias puts it closer to town.

Charlotte FC

I wonder where they got the inspiration from.

I like the Crest though.

Not bad, clean and simple crest. I hate the use of "Minted." Oh well, best of luck to them. Nice excuse to visit my friends down there now too.

EDIT:
The new team will be named Charlotte Football Club, or Charlotte FC. The club will also adopt CLTFC as a secondary reference.
Four primary colors will identify the team: Blue, black, silver and white.

Crest
CREST: Charlotte FC's crest and its clean, circular shape is inspired by a classical coin, recognizing the city's modern status as a major US financial capital as well as its history as the first American city with its own branch of the US mint.

CROWN: The centerpiece of the crest is a four-point crown—the spires represent each of Charlotte’s four wards—symbolizing the royal legacy behind the city's name. Charlotte is the original Queen City named in honor of queen Charlotte Sophia of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, wife of Britain’s King George III, during the time of the city's founding in 1768.

TYPE: The engraved typography is a nod to Charlotte’s minting history, featuring a contemporary aesthetic with its white-on-black typeface.

MINTED 2022: Commemorates the inaugural season of the club, while paying homage to the city’s coin-making past.

I do find it kind of amusing that ALLY appears to be their primary sponsor, while they will be playing in Bank of America stadium

Like the crown reference. Charlotte had two nicknames the queens city and the hornets nest. Their supporter section should be called The Nest. (King George callee Charlotte the hornets nest of rebellion.
