Away - September 6 - D.C. (Postgame)

Two bad falls from the refs.
But I put this on our manager. Obvious they were ten behind the ball 15 minutes in. At halftime, take off two of the three d mids. Should have been a 4-1-1-4 for most of the second half. Taty partner Heber. Isi and Mitrita. Pick one of Sands, Parks or Ring. Terrible.

poor finishing is the name of the game. unkel calling things he didn't see. alan kelly continuing to screw us cause he likes to.

ronny's lack of rotation is hurting us i'm sure. his subs seem to all be planned according to his press conferences. they aren't reactions to what's going on in the game - which to me is pretty damn idiotic. if he had made the RIGHT subs earlier in the game, we would have had more flow and more chances. his subs didn't make our attack better. it kinda killed it cause we weren't in the right rhythm anymore.

GMS needs to come out of his shell. for the love of god.

Heber needs to find his 2019 self and have a swap.

Taty and isi need more game time. they deserve a chance to show what they can do since heber and Ring aren't producing goals.

Had to finish chances first half it got worse second half. I do think it was penalty. The team has no long distance shooters and also got slower trying to best the low block. We had three chances First half and failed. Would of sucked losing this one on a one shot one goal.

Still this is why the rotation questions come up for deila. In our years in league every time we play three games in a week the third game tends to suck this is why he needs to rotate a few players.

Hopefully, a lesson was learned this evening as Cincinnati is likely to bunker as well.

Substitutes were needed earlier (60 minutes) with two attackers on and a midfielder and Medina off. The team may be responding better to Deila, but his substitutions are too slow and too independent of game situation.

Ronny has said many times in his post game pressers that his subs are planned. this means he doesn't make subs to react to what's happening in the game and that is very concerning. not sure if isi and gms tonight were reactionary, but i think they were also planned as well. taty for heber is a sub he likes to make. so is gudi coming on for mata at the 80th minute.

he's not a very good manager and our last few wins have been cause the players decided to play OUR way instead of his.

Heber needs to sit until he gets his touch back. Taty up top instead. Isi needs more game time as has been said, and Mitrita needs to be out there as well. Medina and Parks regressing now to late-19 form. Ring still disappointing. Matarrita and Tinnerholm were like our best attacking players, sadly. Defense was solid.

Watched that game from a pub in Woodstock and from what I could tell we hosed them, absolutely bossed them from start to finish, but same as the last few months, when we get into the final third, just nothing happens.
Seemed like we got screwed on a penalty and GMS late shot that seemed like a goal to me.
I mean, we’re not losing, but there’s still not a lot to get excited about...

You can complain about tactics and PRO all you want. Doesn’t mean dick if the players can’t kick the ball at the goal.

Dropping 2 points is 1000% on the players tonight.
Yes. We should have scored about 5 goals tonight.
I probably complain about this team more than anyone but as bad as NYCFC were at finishing PRO was terrible.
One of the 5 should have been GMS in the 88th minute.

We really shouldn't blame the coach for this game, as much as poeple want to make Ronny the boogieman for the season. We played probably the nicest stuff of the entire season for large stretches of this game -- should have clearly had 3 goals in the first 30 minutes, and never let off the pedal. Aside from the god-awful finishing, it was a dominant game.

I know we're in the middle of the season at this point, but I feel like I'm still in a position where I care more about process than results. Because if the process is good, the results will be there in the end. This was the closest we've looked to 2019 NYCFC, so the process was great tonight. If we play another 13 games like that, we'll be right where we want to be in the standings.

One thing I do want to criticize Ronny for: Where was Mitrita? This is a game where the opponent isn't even trying to attack, and you don't use Mitrita? If you're not going to use Mitrita in this game, is he completely out of the rotation? If he's not used tonight, when will he be used. I'm also kind of over Alex Ring as a winger. Guy can't finish, and isn't a good passer in the attack. Ring's a great player for us, but he's being played out of position because it seems like Parks and Sands have supplanted him on the D-mid depth chart. So we either have to change formation or play him out wide in order to get him in there.

And I'll end with this tweet from Ian. Unbelievable that we didn't win that game.

You think Ted Unkel is the worst ref in the league, then you remember Alan Kelly is working the same game. Rough. Brutally refereed game. Between getting caught in the attack to the non-calls and poor calls ... that was a brutally refereed game.

DC sucks and they basically set up as if to say, score on us if you can. And we didn't. So sure we looked great on the ball in midfield and building up the attack. But they conceded that much. Game ended 0-0 so that is a failure on our part.

And yes I agree with you about Ronny and Mitrita. Mitri needed to be out there tonight, if not as a starter, then as a early 2nd half sub.

Agreed. We started out shaky but once they found a groove it was constant attacks. Lots of overlapping runs and dangerous balls into the box. Couple times we saw Mata run in behind and ring/maxi played a great ball over the top. 2 clear cut scoring chances from those runs that weren’t put away. Where I will give Ronny shit is subs. No impact.
4 games straight of better football and he’s got me coming over to his side now. Still a few things that need to be figured out.

Scoring goals is all about self-confidence. Benching Heber now would probably be the end of what little confidence he has in himself in front of the goal. I'd rather make players like Medina and Buster Keaton stay after the training to let them try to hit the goal.

Mitrita is a puzzle. Could it be that he's sulking again and subsequently Deila doesn't like him..? Strange how this club has made a hash of its DP situation.

Deila’s comments are puzzling. Not often do you see coaches going after players in press conferences. Those discussions should be private. Also strange that he prefers GMS over Mitri when we need a goal. I think he has a bias and it’s hurting the team.
