Home - September 12 - Cincinnati (Postgame)

2-1 win. Deila needs to be better at game management.

Play Cacha Acevedo when you are up 2-0 and need to see the game out. Can we tell Sims that NYCFC forums should get a game where we pick the subs? It would be better than Ronny for sure. How can a guy manage for this long without knowing how to manage substitutions.

because he doesn't know his players and probably STILL doesn't after all this time. The fact that he continues to play Ring at the left wing over Taty or Isi is beyond me. If he doesn't want to play Mitri cause Mitri isn't willing to play defense, well that's ok. but he still needs some minutes to PROVE that he is willing to play defense. if he never gets a chance to prove himself, how can he ever earn any minutes?

The fact is - we need attacking power. Heber, Ring, Medina up front isn't scaring anybody. NOBODY (except maybe DC). If we can't score, we have to defend harder and let's face it, we are not the greatest defense in the league and are frequently making really bonehead mistakes. Good teams in the playoffs are going to punish us.

Isi, Mitri and Taty not getting minutes now is going to hurt us later when we are needing goals in a hard fought game. He's basically eliminating our offensive game in favor of being more covered defensively (he says this all the time in press conferences). We were so dangerous last year because we had offensive threats that were pushing the opponents back line constantly, which caused them to stretch out even when they tried to press us. We could barely handle the cinci press tonight and that's just pathetic.

No rotation and meaningless subs, which were meant to waste time more than effect the game. we won but i couldn't be more frustrated with Ronny. I still want him OUT.

Thought Ring was good. But he wasn’t really a LW was he. Gudi was

gudi played good defense and as a backup left back, that is what i expect him to do. he wasn't much of a threat in the offensive half but that's ok. he served his role well and that's all we can ask of him.

So apparently Ronny thought we were good until their first goal.... I think we weren't doing well for a while before their first goal...

He does think that Rocha or Nico can start to replace the card-accumulated Sands next game.

I seem to have noticed that our CBs have more freedom to go charging up the pitch with the ball at their feet than I remember. I think this is entirely because of Sands. Callens has, more than once, become nearly part of the forward line after going on a huge dribble.

I hate that Ring is our top scorer. That is perverse.

Wasn't the best performance, but for 60 minutes or so we were the only team in that game. At 2-0 completely switched off, but got a little bit of luck to earn the win.

Agree with the others before me wondering where the subs are. Don't really understand what Ronny does in that spot. But we really were pretty good in this game. Tinnerholm, Ring, GMS, Sands were all phenomenal. Hopefully this won't be a long-term thing for Maxi.

It also seems that with Sands, the CBs have more freedom to come up defensively and challenge line breaking passes to forwards or attacking mids.

When Chanot or Callens do that, Sands will slip back to provide cover on the back line. Below is an example of when this happened against Toronto and I’ve seen a lot more of it elsewhere.

Outfield hits the nail on the head as usual

I know this is CRAZY to think, but maybe if you keep getting asked about shitty substitutions, maybe you're making really shitty substitutions? It's one thing to be asked "Why did you take off _____ when he was having a good game?" where the answer can be "to save him for next game", and a consistent "where are the subs? your subs don't make sense"

Echoing what (many) others have noted, if there are substitutions between 65' and 70' that game ends 3-0 or 4-0. Their goal was the direct result of fatigue.

Also, Deila must really, really dislike Mitrita for him not to make appearances in the past two games. Faults accepted, no one can convince me otherwise that 10 or 15 minutes of Mitrita would not have led to scoring chances against both D.C. and Cincinnati. In a short season, goal differential is more likely to come into play for seeding - a home game as the 2 or 3 seed is preferred to a road game as the 5 or 6 seed.
