2020 Roster Discussion

Wonder when Isi's last test was and if he'll be tested again before 14 days after that positive test.

Players are tested every other day, including day before and day after a game. So if his Friday test was positive, he should have been tested on Wednesday as the previous test before his positive.

I would imagine there is some level of testing during his quarantine, but I don't think they've ever publicly released that information.

He's not going to the training facility (most likely) where the testing is done. So is he doing at home test or are they coming to his apartment/house? Obviously we don't have these answers.

The belief on Saban is that it was a false positive since he had negative results the two days after the positive result.

In some places, two consecutive negative tests is considered as important - or even more important - than 14 days symptom free.
Similar to Bayern Munich and Serge Gnabry. He tested positive one day, then test negative 2-3 times immediately after. Was put in quarantine for a few days but after the negative tests he was allowed back into the team for the CL game yesterday.

ITS may be allowed back sooner if he tests negative, but that would require numerous negative tests in a row.

Ooooorrrr the club could have not said he was positive, let him play, and then subbed him out at 88th minute mark and said his results came back positive. Looking at you... Dodgers and Turner.

You left out the part where he comes back to celebrate the win with the team after the game and for post-game photo ops right next to the head coach.

is the club releasing players for the international break this time? For us, Callens is the only one called up so far...

Potential of selling Medina in the offseason...

it seems that Gremio wanted him on loan with an option to buy. NYCFC was like nope....so some consider the potential transaction dead.

EDIT: my mistake, it was not that nycfc did not want to loan him, but it seems that they timing of it is the issue. Gremio wants him for the second round of the libertadores which is in late november/ december and that potentially still playoff time for MLS.

The ability to sell Medina sounds very appealing, but the timing really isn't all that great. If this happened a year or two ago, it would be much more advantageous. But now we know due to that Athletic article that he's set to not take up a DP spot next season. His salary isn't all that high either, so that shouldn't be too much of a drain on our cap.

Hold up, are you saying we should keep Medina in 2021?

But in all honestly, the opportunity cost of his salary is interesting.
- What other player could we have at his salary?
- What is the potential gain we can get from him from a sale?

Yup, that's it. I don't think the forums ever took issue with Medina himself, as apposed to Medina as a DP. He's finally found himself a niche & won't be a DP. Would need a nice transfer fee (resulting in lot of GAM) to offset sending him away.

Here's an interesting question. If sold, would Medina be considered a DP?

- DP: We get full monies back until we recoup the cost of the incoming transfer, then get 95% which up to $1M of that can be converted to GAM.
- Non DP: We get 95% of the monies, of which $1M can be converted to GAM.

So in a sale process, it would be beneficial for him not to be DP, since the first dollar in is considered GAM up to $1M. We're not going to get nearly enough above his outgoing transfer fee to convert to GAM. NYCFC, playing the long game.

I'm not saying we should keep him. Honestly, I think we can do better in terms of a better player at that salary, as well as opportunities for younger guys from our academy to get minutes over him (at his position, it wouldn't currently be anyone from our academy that is now on the senior roster, but perhaps next year or the year after, someone will come up).

All I meant to say, is that it doesn't seem as much of a dire need to get rid of him now that he won't be taking up a DP spot.

cool. He’s grown on me.
I agree. Especially for next season when he's out of DP slot. He's got 6 goal contributions in 18 games, and all of them being in the last 10 games since he's really started to grow into the position. So looking at it that way, it's 6 in his last 10. if he keeps that type of form up, he could be really good in the playoffs and future seasons. I'm not sure what unlocked inside of him, but it was very clear that something did!

Is Sands out for the season or do we still think he might be back even for Game 1 of the Playoffs? The last news I saw said he might be back, but I'm also reading stray remarks here and there by people who should know that say he's out until 2021.
