The Outfield

The Outfield has a new home and we are just starting to release our five-part series season recap. Check it out here. Our pieces will still be tweeted out, but you can also subscribe to the mailing list to have it sent straight to your email.

As Torrent summed up the situation in his secret goodbye interview with The Outfield

Nice!

Kind of sad and kind of ridiculous that the only poster on this forum who's risen to become a nationally published soccer writer decided to quit the board to avoid being trolled by someone who doesn't even post here anymore. This place would be a whole lot better if just one of them had decided to quit.

Maybe his time away from the Forums gave him the ability to focus on being a nationally published soccer writer...

The amount of time I'm on the Forums, oh my... o_O

Who was that? I’ve muted most of the annoying folks (other than myself — not physically possible) so I don’t know if they disappear.

Is the Outfield more or less defunct? No posts all offseason and preseason through now, plus all of the pre-Substack posts have been disappeared.

ETA the Twitter is active, which is nice, but that's not the long form analysis that you really want from the Outfield.
We're working on getting back to some long-form posts. Last year really threw things off for us and we started altering our content to be more Twitter and video-focused, but have started kicking around getting back to writing. Not sure it will be at the frequency we were at back in 2019, but we are looking to get back to writing.

Also working on getting our library into the Substack so all our posts will be there.

Good to hear. Also, there are useful article lengths in between 280 characters and short book.

May I suggest signing up as a Verified Brave Publisher, so I can tip you crypto monthly? Can also do this for your social media accounts, too!

Kevin did write the ASA preview: https://www.americansocceranalysis....galaxy-new-york-city-and-sporting-kansas-city

I will say personally that 2021 has sucked alot so far. My kid was also in covid quarantine twice in 3 weeks to start the season (he was fine fyi), so shitposting on twitter has been all I have been able to do.

I think our goal is to get something thing out every 1-2 weeks moving forward, but our shtick will always be quality over quantity. This team was such a buzzkill this offseason that it was super hard to get motivate to write anything.

Sorry, and in the end happy, to hear about your kid. I also knew Kevin wrote the ASA preview (and noted that here), but if anything that made me wonder even more if the Outfield were going dark. He's not the first Outfield contributor to write there, but never before did it coincide with TO being silent.

Beyond that, to be clear, I'm not criticizing lack of free content. For one, I'm well aware by way of personal effort how hard and relatively thankless it is to generate free content on a regular, scheduled basis.

If you all want to stop, that's fine. You want to post monthly, quarterly, bi-weekly, or sporadically: all good.
