2021 Schedule Thread

Of the 17 MLS Regular Season matches in 2021, how many will be played at Yankee Stadium?

I wonder if they'll announce the schedule in segments. Announce 2 months at a time until we're back to some sort of normality.

They’ll play in the home markets. My understanding of the MLS IS BACK tourney is that it was prohibitively expensive for them.

Odds of an MIB style start to the season?

You mean playing at Citi Field again?

Soooo.... When we getting the schedule??

Probably not until there's more information known about what 2021 will look like vis a vie fans. Training camps are supposed to start six weeks before the regular season, so backdate it from there. My guess is we get a schedule two months before opening day to give players two weeks to return/quarantine, then jump right into training camps.

It's going to be tough to delay the season by a lot with the full summer of international events. So they might delay it to March 15 -- at the latest April 1 -- but they probably can't delay by much more than that.

My assumption regarding the CBA is that the league is primarily going to be asking for concessions towards this season. Whether that be a delayed start and compressed schedule, an MLSisBack type start, a delayed start and reduced schedule etc.
We won't see a schedule until a deal is reached.

i am fully assuming that we are not going to be allowed at the stadium any time soon. In door dining is gone again and I dont see it returning anytime soon. i honestly see the summer as possible season ticket holder only games.

It all depends on how quickly vaccines are distributed in the next few months. If the majority of the population in NYC can be vaccinated, then it might happen sooner rather than later. That being said.. i have no faith in debozo getting it done efficiently and fairly.

I'm still more bullish, but I think the key is Johnson & Johnson. If their 1 dose vaccine is effective and gets approved in early to mid February, we will be on a very good trajectory. If we only have the current two approved vaccines, I think we only have 400m doses secured by July, so enough for 200m people, which is probably the level of resistance of adults willing to get it.
I expect to be in Yankee Stadium for the first public match in April!

BDB is at the wheel - we’ll be lucky if we get vaccinated by 2022

I think this is unfortunately incredibly optimistic. Phase 2 vaccinations aren't expected to start until the summer, at least according to the current schedule:

I'd be very happy to be proven wrong but I'm not sure there'll be spectators at all this year.

These phases were scheduled based on the estimated number of doses we would be getting. If that changes somehow or J&J gets their vaccine approved and is effective, then the schedule will also change.

I am hoping for the best but definitely expecting the worst with BDB at the helm.

BDB isn't the asshole who ordered a $1 million fine for giving doses to anyone except an extremely over-restricted list and caused NY state to start throwing away vaccines and we can't even give them to people over 75.

ETA Fuck Cuomo

ETA Fuck BDB too, but seriously. Fuck Cuomo.
He's also recently been acting as though those skeptical of the vaccine were being ridiculous after he spent months telling everyone they should be skeptical of it.

totally agree BDB is not 100% to blame. Cuomo shares part of it as well. It's a big mess and could be and should be better organized in NY and in every other state. How there isn't a proper reservation system via online or phone to allow people to sign up for vaccines doesn't make sense to me. We knew a vaccine was coming. It should have been one of the first things they were planning for. Instead, they waited until we were weeks away from having FDA approval and distribution to even think about who they would start giving the vaccine to.

Yes, there should be a prioritized list of individuals but there should never be a reason to throw out doses. A fail from the top to the bottom.

I was surprised to see that NY was one of the first states to start administering the vaccine for this reason. He had made such a big deal out of having his specially appointed NY vaccine experts test and validate all the data first before distributing anything in NY and when push came to shove, it didn't seem like any of that happened at all.

There had been plans for mass vaccinations by county. But the state decided to just not use all of that planning and training.

I agree with many of the sentiments given above. My only input is that as a NYS Parks employee I received a department wide email asking everyone if there is anyone who has any medical training or background to help administer the vaccine and put shots in people's arms. I think the state's resources are spread so thin it doesn't help that Cuomo keeps flip flopping on his plan going forward. There are a lot of moving parts and lack of funding. I see this process taking a lot longer than it should especially with people signed on who's background are not mainly in the medical field.
