NYCFC eSports

I can't help but think about boxing where anyone can fight or not fight anyone and that's seen as fine. Kind of feels like if people are winning competitions or holding their rank without playing higher ranked players, the scoring structure of the game is wrong. They aren't incentivizing the right things.

The forced loss during the tie game is 100% bullshit tho.
I think part of the problem is this weekend circuit thing was originally set up to be a low stakes practice area to hone your skills and have fun. AFAICT, the games never count in any sort of tournament. But separately, someone set up a ranking system and these games do count there, which creates the incentive to manipulate it, and these weekend games exist in 2 states at the same time where they both matter and don't. And the pseudo random matchup system is prone to manipulation. Besides colluding to avoid playing each other the same gang is accused of "stream sniping" Bartels, where they allegedly would watch his stream to see when he was looking to start a new game and they would put up people from their crew at the same time to make sure he had tough matchups more often than chance would otherwise create. I'm not sure of either the legality or cultural ethics of that, but it's so freaking petty. It sounds like they went out of their way to impede this guy's progress out of insiderism and jealousy.

So the thing is that while actually winning FIFA tournaments pays out ludicrously low prize money compared to those for, say, Overwatch, a lot of the pros spend enormous amounts of money to buy their squads. And the way they *really* make money is via YouTube and Twitch streaming.

And to get a decent sized audience, a player needs to have a strong rep of going 30-0 in Weekend League.

Hence all these pros colluding to never play each other so they have a better shot at 30-0.

Chris playing now vs cincinatti in the playoffs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And he lost 2-0 in the quarterfinals. Won eChampions League but no results in eMLS.

I guess NYCFC turned a blind eye to the scheming of him and a few other eMLS guys? Or gave home a slap on the wrist and a few free jackets/shirts a few weeks later for the start of this season?

Not even trying to be an ass, but does anyone actually follow these events? I see the scores in tweets but I'm curious if anyone follows some live streams or however one follows it?

Wins 7-2 on aggregate. Will play in the semifinals (and potentially finals) tomorrow at 3 PM (Sunday).
I’ve been following him since he signed on and it’s crazy how good he is. He plays against other pro players and makes them look like amateurs.

So it is 2-2 in the first leg and then Chris is up 4-2 (6-4 aggregate) in the second leg. During a through ball, there's a pause in the game and then the opponent scores. Chris is disputing the goal because of the lag. Even in eMLS, PRO (or the internet or whoever judges this) is crap. :p

Waiting about 10 minutes for the game to restart...

I can't even with the idea that our one signing who performs in championship play is this guy.

Surprised his accomplishments aren't listed in emails from the front office...

NYCFC has incredible recorded the most points over the past 5 seasons (that's not apples to apples with Atlanta or LAFC, oh they also both won silverware), but we're still as eager to win a trophy. But hey, we've also won the eChampions League. First MLS team to win the UEFA Champions League. How about them apples to apples!
