2021 Roster Discussion

I'd be happy to see him back on the chance that he can continue the form he was in. We could def use that Mitri.

He wanted to leave because of family matters related to COVID, not because he didn't want to be here or was a malcontent. To the contrary, he left on a terrific run of form. It's a shame he killed our title chances last year, but family comes first.

The guy averaged half a point per game during his tenure, so I think I'd welcome him back if he decides that his family situation is in a better place. Could they do better with his spot? Absolutely. But they could do worse, and they unquestionably need his big talent up front.
I don’t remember the details, but how did moving to SaudI help covid-related family issues? I thought that was a cover.

It brought him closer to Romania and allowed him to be in a country that didn't have the kind of international quarantine regulations the US had, so he would be able to more easily go between Romania and Saudi Arabia.

This strikes me as fundamentally correct.

I get the instinct that says he left us last year so it's time to move on. Part of me feels that way too, but I think it's a little short-sighted.

We are in exceptional times. He had a good reason for wanting to leave last year. He would have a good reason for cutting the loan short.

He's had enough moments of brilliance for us that I still think he could be transformational if he puts it all together.

Also, and unexpectedly, one of his best games in the last few weeks he was here was when Maxi was absent and he played more as a ten than as a winger, which shows a versatility that is valuable considering our needs. If we are going to be targeting players of the caliber we've had targeted this offseason, I would bring him back. If we're finally going to go bigger and bolder, no.

Also makes you wonder if maybe this is another reason why NYCFC are holding off with any major DP rumors? in the front it looks like "NYCFC have 2 dp slots open!"... Yet in the back, currently we have one DP slot that has to be bought down first (who knows how the league works with that, does it take time? when does the buyout begin? etc.) and another that may not be open for much longer bc the loan player is returning.

Also Imagine this:

1. Medina buyout isn't allowed until summer for some reason (unlikely, but yet still likely)
2. Mitrita returns, and leaves/sold/loan in the summer (likely)
3. Maxi leaves next year (we know this)

...That could leave us with 3 open dp slots at the same time.

Medina qualifies under the U-22 "young money" initiative, right? So couldn't we move him to that mechanism and open up his DP spot that way?

Literally have no idea. The league makes up rules as they go along so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ is my answer to that.
Also I'm not a rules expert at all compared to some people on this forum so hopefully someone can clarify.

Would be typicalcity if one of our open DP spots is filled by a guy who left. (Extenuating circumstances aside, and the fact that he's not a bad DP level talent).

This is feeling very Lampardgateish. We had a DP signing. He goes someplace else. We can't fill that DP spot because he's coming back and we don't know how good he'll be now since he left.

Also hearing that Mitrita's wife left the US because he wasn't getting playing time under Deila. Remember Alex Wing, well Mitria was riding the bench.

Disclaimer: everything we know is a rumor right now. But, this is part of why I don't want him back. I don't care whose fault it is, we don't need a DP slot taken up by someone the coach doesn't value. And if that is Delia's fault the solution is to get rid of him, not to keep him and bring back the player he under-values.

the same twitter account now stating that salary from two months back had just been paid to Mitri and current month salary too. lets see if i find similar stuff mentioned elsewhere.

Doesn’t matter which team it is that I support I really don’t care for offseasons. Hardly pay attention to anything no matter the sport. With how crazy work has been the last few months I honestly have no idea where we stand as a roster.
Who’s going?
Who’s coming?

Taty staying.
No news on people coming except one guy from Emelec in ecuador... and maybe even mitrita coming back too.

The Athletic reported that current MLS players can be grandfathered in but there are also some provisions that require teams to either have at least 1 DP 23 and younger OR at least 1 DP that can be bought down with TAM in order to have the max 3 U22 spots.
