2021 Roster Discussion

I totally feel this, even though I also agree with:

But I am also quite put off by Ian's repeated after-the-fact dunking on Ring in last night's show. I don't like the ethos whereby you never say a bad word about someone on the team until they're gone, then rip them.
Yeah - I always loved the guy. RD may have driven him over the edge. Whatever it was, it seemed that a divorce was best.

It is still saddening. IMHO Ring was the first organic idol for the fanbase, in the sense that Villa was already a glittering superstar come to lead the team, and Jack was here for too short a time, and Callens is too silent of a leader, and Taty is a fighter but also a flopper, Mata we loved to hate. And we all know that to chant "we all dream of a team of Maxis, a team of Maxis" would be absurd, starting with a potential 5'2" GK, and following with the expense. You cannot build a team from DP materials. I think Ring was the only guy who was proletarian enough, always gave 110% and was here long enough to become a symbol. So I think it's heart breaking and I would much rather had seen Delia depart, tarred, covered in feathers and dropped off at the edge of town.

i guess it depends on which part of the fanbase....in terms of idol status, around my nycfc circles its more:

Ian also called him out for shushing the supporters to the camera (and presumably his subsequent silly “say it to my face” comments). I agree that was poor form by Ring. All signs point to it being a good time to go.

i still dont know why though, i dont think the fans were bashing him just deila and the overall performance of the team. not him specifically.

NYCFC 2021 DEPTH CHART

Striker: Heber, Castellanos
Wing: Tajouri-Shradi, Thaigo, Jasson
Wing/CAM: Moralez, Medina
CM: Parks, Sands, Morales, Acevedo, Rocha, Zelalem, Torres, Haak
RB: Tinnerholm, Gray
LB: Gloster, Amundsen, Thorarinsson
CB: Chanot, Callens, Ibeagha
GK: Johnson, Barraza, Mizell

We have 5 players who can play the 3 forward positions - assuming we don't change formations.

We have 5 players who can play CB if you include Sands and Gray.

There was a Ring Ronny Riff?
I don’t want to Trash Ring but I did complain in this forum about the stupid fouls and poor passing. I’m okay with moving on... who’s captain now?
Also, kind of excited to see where this team ends up at the end of the season. Aside from not having brought in a striker yet I think I should feel pretty good about the additions that we’ve made even without seeing the new guys play yet. I’m still perplexed at the collection of midfielders. (As I’ve noted before I wonder if Gudi would do better in midfield cause he seems about as quick as Tony R.
Part of my My wish list:
Taty has matured enough to dial down the flopping act about 101% and just uses his strength to stay vertical.
ITS stays healthy and gets into space to fire more shots with what looks like a pretty darn good left foot.
Maxi stays healthy and guys get in good position for him to collect assists.(how about the offense not pulling up all the time and not being boring in the final third)
Medina proves us wrong.
Keaton doesn’t trip over his own feet for a few goals this season.
Chanot cuts down on the oopsie errors.

Doing it now. Had a busy morning, didn't even watch the preseason match today.

so it seems we have not signed our draft picks. However the third rounder Latinovich made the bench today.

also it seems Haak was there but not on the lineup .....im thinking a loan is really possible for him.

I am trying to remember the last time an outfield draft pick made the team. Was there anyone after Jack Harrison?

I think Hartford wants Haak back -- I suspect that is where he will be going.

I honestly have no idea what to expect from Thiago (I'm currently thinking maybe Miguel Camargo redux?), but I was interested to see that his Football Manager stats (which aren't very good) have him listed as a right back?!

i am not one to get persuaded by FIFA or Football manager numbers. I recall years ago they had carlos Fierro ( chivas player) projected to be top world class player and the dude didnt even go to europe, hes now in San Jose doing ok at best.

if we are to go by numbers then we should try his xG's, XGA's heat maps, duels won or whatever other metrics they have these days that we see for other teams. The only issue is since he has limited amount of first team games so that info may be harder to find.

Those are a year old. Also, do you think the fine folks at Epic Games have an editorial department that is making informed observations about 19-year old Brazilians?

It’s not the individual stats I’m interested in, it’s the idea he could be used at right back! (A position where we don’t have any recognised cover)

It may turn out to be complete BS (they can often get things wrong) but the Football Manager games have an army of amateur scouts compiling the data, and it’s surprisingly well respected. We don’t have much to go on with this kid, he’s a bit of a cipher.
