Yankee Stadium 2021 Thread

Some observations.
  • Quick to get in. Lines weren't bad, and there were no hassles with the covid tests.
  • Limited concessions makes it hard to find what you want. It took me until halftime to figure out where to get a hamburger.
  • Vendors have a limited knowledge of what's open and where to get things. Asking around doesn't help at all.
  • The beer selection is complete shit and totally unacceptable. They only offered 4-5 choices - 2 standard American piss-water options, plus Heineken, Amstel Light and something called Pinstripe Pilsner. All in cans. No IPAs. No local breweries.
  • There is a bar serving mixed drinks in the outfield terrace. That's a better option than Pinstripe Pilsner.
  • Food options are better on the other side of that bar area. That's where the hamburgers are. It's also where you can get ice cream.
  • For those with kids, there isn't much at all in the way of sweets. The soft serve ice cream in the food station near the supporters section is all I could find. No cotton candy, no ice cream bars.
  • Atmosphere was good. Not quite like a normal home game, but not far off. Everyone was really happy to be there, I think.

On TV it sounded pretty decent, but looked pathetic, frankly. Which is not the fault of fans or the club, but that's how it appeared to me.

It sounded really loud on the broadcast -- the roar after the Johnson double-save was like old times. But yes, obviously only having 7,000 in that cavernous stadium is going to look weird. Hopefully soon we can dramatically increase the limit and have more fans in the building.

Based on what I saw I would have guessed 1-2k. It looked so much more empty than what I thought 7k would be.

I guess since I'm a Yankees fan I've gotten used to how weird it looks, but it definitely looks strange. They actually listed about 7,200, so they definitely did OK based on the limits.

It was about what i expected. I was surprised at how much space I felt I had.

It was nice getting some sun, sitting with family and friends, and watching a win... even if I did have to drink a Stella.

100% worth the price of admission if you ask me. I hope everyone else felt the same way too -- we deserve this.

Agreed. It's been a long, long, long, long 13 months. you don't realize how much you missed days like this. I'm still buzzing.

Nah, it looked definitely around 7k. Just everyone is spread out, but to me it definitely looked close to 7k. Stupid-big stadiums with little people inside be damned, but I'm sure the players were happy to play in front of fans!

I had trouble getting in. The gate closest to the supporters section was only accepting pitchside seat holders (I didn’t see anything about this beforehand). Got stuck in line awhile at another gate and missed the first goal. But all said, it was good to be back

That gate wasn't open at all. It was just for for rapid test for people on the field (pitchside, staff, etc.). It had to go there to test, then walk to the lobby (near Gate 2) where the players walk in, then walk to back to the centerfield field. Crazy.

It was all good in person. People around us weren’t in high five range, but we could interact and do cheers (five chicken buckets!).

You should definitely try and do the next one if you can.

Oh I want to and plan to go. This was just a TV perception issue, and apparently somewhat limited to me. But again, it looked like each section was maybe <5% full, nowhere near 20%.

It seemed to me yesterday it took a long time for people to get to their seats , a lot of people still turning up all the way to half time

my first time using a parking pass, bit of a pain that you can only get validated at gate 2 and even there they struggled because the pass was in my apple wallet.

Was a good turnout over at Billy’s after the game as well

new CDC mask guidance. doesn't look like things will change for attending live games just yet...

edit - didn't realize the image had transparency... PDF link here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/pdfs/324153_choosingSaferActivities11.pdf

Felt truly bizarre walking to Costco while holding my mask instead of wearing it. Was almost happy to put it back on when I got there. Gonna take some getting used to after all this time.

yea - considering most, if not all stores, in NYC require masks to enter.. it's just easier to keep it on the whole time instead of fiddling with it. at least that's my thought. i might think differently when it's 90 degrees outside.. but by then, guidance should be changing again too.

The dominant practice in my neighborhood for months has been not to wear masks full time outdoors. Realistically, I can take a 45-60 minute walk and unless I go to the main commercial strip I will only cross paths with someone maybe 8-12 times, so that makes a fair bit of sense. I might need a mask for 3 minutes out of the total walk, and my practice has been to wear it pulled down. I know a lot of people mock the chin masks, but I would pull it up while still a good 20 feet away any time someone did approach. Now that I'm vaxxed, I've only been pulling it up if the person approaching is masked or at least has one on their chin. I will probably continue doing so as a courtesy even though the guidance changed, though that won't continue forever. Of course I pull it up when entering anywhere indoors.
