General MLS Discussion

We had 3 players make team of the week.

Johnson and medina in starting xi and gudi made the bench.
Gudi's FK was incredible. He's very capable of that. But he really didn't have that great of a game aside from that.

His biggest issue I think, is he's a slow decision maker. He can make good passes and send in nice crosses, but he seems to wait until he absolutely sees the run, and by that point, it's often a bit late as a defender has closed the gap.

Need him to take more risks with passes in the final third. It's ok if we turn it over there even 50% of the time if we're taking some risks and those that we complete get us into more dangerous areas. Just don't be as risky in the middle and definitely not back 3rd.

what you've basically said is Gudi is good for free kicks and vs lazy defenders in the final 3rd. the problem is, he's a LB and his #1 job is to defend, which he just isn't very good at because he's so slow, which is even more pronounced when he's struggling to get back after joining the attack. Can't expect him to be an all round monster like tinny, but I expect him to do his #1 job well, which he doesn't and his attacking games isn't good enough to offset where he's lacking.

he had a good game against cinci.. but cinci didn't exactly attack us or pressure us, so i guess that falls into the 2nd part of what Gudi is good for.

I think he would do better as a winger than a defender tbh. Didn't someone mention he started as a winger once too?

Gudi is kind of like Rocha but pale and with a foot.

More complaints about the MLS website.

1. I found the interactive chart of passes, crosses, defensive actions etc. It's on this page
You have to click on the Players (not Clubs) view and scroll down below the boxscore under the heading "Chalkboard." But, I sometimes cannot see it at all if my ad-blocker is on. Other times I can. Weird, and annoying.

2. I cannot find a way to access the game Recap from the Game summary page. There are options for Summary, Feed, Lineups, Stats, and Video. But no Recap. There is a game recap
But there no longer seems to be a way to find it from the Game summary. There used to be, but it's gone, and that seems an odd choice.

3. yes I'm a little obsessed about stupid web design choices that make the user experience objectively worse. Don't Make Me Think.

#2 was annoying to me as well.

I also find it mystifying the number of times a website gets an "upgrade" that improves its form but diminishes its function. If you drop features, it's not an upgrade.

OMG thank you for this so much. I've been going nuts about them taking this away and started using WhoScored instead, which is ok, but they don't provide directions in the passing charts.

ETA: They still got rid of the minutes filters, which is annoying.

Oh they did. I hadn't even gotten that deep into it yet. I was pretty excited just to find it.
Also I think the player numbers boxes are bigger proportionally to the size of the pitch, so everything is more cluttered. Basically, I think they made the field graphic smaller, but the numbers have to be big enough to read and were already as small as reasonably possible.

To provide a counterpoint, I used to use whoscored.com exclusively but now I find myself happy with using MLSsoccer.com for general stats and game analysis. <shrug?>

The guy writing the Power Rankings copy this year is really good. He also follows up on this joke in the NYCFC blurb. But I confess I don't get this joke. I guess it's something self-deprecating but I can't figure out the specific hook. I like the Seattle blurb too.

ETA: The whole thing is gold.

Pretty certain it's because they all think we're supposed to be shit this season? Maybe I'm wrong idk
