2021 MLS All-Star Game (2020 Cancelled)

I don't want it against LIGA MX.
I want it East vs West.
ffs

I don't want it at all. Just have a best MLS squad at the end of the season. No need for an all star break. No need for unnecessary injuries. This is just a spectacle that means nothing.

Will be interesting to see the usual LAFC supporters doing their thing, then the rest of the stadium full of Liga MX supporters. lol.

ALL STAR GAMES NEED TO BE ABOLISHED> Kinda surprised Liga MX would agree to such a pointless spectacle. Maybe they can feel their dominance over the NA market going away and they are hanging on for dear life?

So the stooges at MLS decide to shit on their league and players by having a stadium full of opposing fans. Why does MLS have to be involved with LMX other than trying to cater to Mexicans living here? I've already heard that MLS is dying to have a Mexican based team in the league. Stop chasing demographics. If the product and play is good, people will come. I watch and follow other leagues because of the play. I hardly watch other MLS games outside of NYCFC, because honestly, a lot of it isn't that good. The expansion needs to slow down. Talent is being diluted. Play isn't getting better and almost every team's attendance is either down or flat. #garberout

Is talent really being diluted? Outside of the initial rosters for some expansion teams, it seems like the talent across the board has been increasing quite dramatically YOY.

Just last offseason, many many people were raving about how great of an offseason FC Cincy was having as they added all these proven MLS vets, and they turned in one of the worst seasons in MLS history. Talent is pouring in, both abroad and up from the academies.

I'm fine with people thinking that expansion needs to slow down, or going against other decisions the league makes, but I just don't see any weight behind the "talent is being diluted" point.

One thing I brought up on r/MLS that I think is important is what the crowd will be. Banc of California Stadium holds 22,000. The first wave of tickets will go to season ticket holders (which may end up for resale). What will the split be of MLS fans vs. LigaMX fans? Will there be more Mexican national team kits than all MLS kits?

I wasn't clear about my comment with dilution, so I'll elaborate.

The United States is behind many leagues in regards to domestic talent numbers. I don't have the 2019 numbers but its dropped significantly in the last few years. I understand that expansion does create more opportunity for American players, but it actually has caused the number of Americans getting playing time to drop. I think it's a troubling trend. I know the academies will help, but I think a more methodical growth approach would have been better as a whole. MLS seems to be focusing more on growing the league than the sport now. I don't think a league with a higher percentage of foreign players is good. The only other domestic league like that is the NHL with Canadian players being the majority, but at least they have franchises there. Even that has been trending differently and the reports show that American players may finally be the majority in the next 10 years. I still consider MLS to be a young growing league, but I think soccer as a sport here hasn't had the growth it needs. Maybe that changes. So right now those numbers are facts but the future result of those numbers are my opinion.

Gotcha. It was hard to tell you were specific to domestic talent for sure. "Talent is being diluted. Play isn't getting better". Neither of those statements were specific enough to Americans only, and the second one especially seemed more generic in nature.

I know its only one team, but it is interesting that this last season was likely the season for NYCFC with the most minutes by Americans. I'd be curious to see how it compares to previous seasons and what other teams looked like this last season. Perhaps a Saturday morning project.
