Will We Be Able To Climb Out Of Our Hole And Make The Playoffs?

We have 7 points and are dead last in the league currently.

We are 1 point behind Montreal, they have 8 points. The problem is is that Montreal has played 5 fewer games than we have and they've been playing pretty well since the CCL ended.

Above them is Philly with 9 points currently but they are about to beat Jersey and go up 5 points on us.

Above them is Chicago with 11 points but they have 2 games in hand as well and have been playing much better since they got their DPs on the field (imagine that!)

Above them is Orlando with 12 points and 1 game in hand that they will play tonight against San Jose. A game they can win.

All hinges on the summer transfer window. With the current roster and the way Kreis has been using it I dont have any hope of making the playoffs. If we do get a third DP this year and Frank starts playing as soon as possible together with maybe some other newly traded non dp players (doubtful) maybe we can dig our way out....maybe

This is MLS and with 6 of 10 clubs making the playoffs in the East, we absolutely can get in their. Last season the Revs lost 8 in a row and went on a tear to get into the playoffs and ultimately win the East. We do not have the roster that they do, so that won't happen for us, but a decent stretch puts us right into the Mix. Can we actually do it? I believe at some point Kreis' experimenting will pay off and we will find something that can get us some points. If we can bring in a DP player, along with FL, that can have a Jermaine Jones effect on our side then of course, we can go deep.
We certainly have a bit of a mountain to climb, but in MLS we a far from dead right now.

I really like your take on it, 413Blue.

Right now, it looks like the hole might grow deeper. Teams 3 through 9 are very close and bunched together -- assuming Montreal gets some results with their 5 ganes in hand. The fight for that final playoff spot could be a barn-burner if we get the right pieces in the summer.

We have 16 games after the July transfer window starting on July 12. That's 48 possible points. This would be the second chapter in our season as we would have at least 2, hopefully 3, maybe if the rules change 4 DPs. The past two seasons, the 6th seed in the East had 49 points. Basically, if we keep sucking this hard until the transfer window we would need to make a complete 180 with our team and win out the rest of the year. But damn right that is possible, this is New York.

Also not every team in New York can have this bad luck: Mets, Jets, Knicks. So one team is due for a miracle to come around. Short term, hopefully the Rangers win the cup. Medium term, we get the playoffs. Long term, we win the cup.

We will literally need to win 75% of our games from July on. Let's face it, the chance of winning any of our next games before then is slim to none.

Im not throwin in the towel. Ill be coming to games and supporting if we finish dead last. But as others have said things look very difficult from here on out. I dont see us beating Houston next week and things dont really look positive until after the transfer window and thats if management makes some competent moves and decisions to improve the roster. If not we arent going anywhere unless Kreis changes things drastically which he wont.

I have to agree that mathematical numbers are a dose of reality.
We're not there yet. Last place is bad but a good run can move us up quickly through a bunch of teams. But we also can't wait until Frankie arrives. If we don't pick up a few points before mid-July then the math gets very, very bad.

Sadly, we don't need the Revs, Jersey, Columbus or DC to be drop points to anyone but us or each other. It's best for us if they just get way out in front and beat up on everyone.

I'm sort of thinking Montreal is going to put up some points with their games in hand. They have some ability and pace.

Kreis is right about one thing: we need a heck of a lot of luck to go our way in the next 6 weeks not to be totally out of the picture before any sort of reinforcement comes.

Luck can be a dominating strategy.
