Will this effect us? (Yankees Ticketing issue)

As a huge NYCFC fan and longtime Yankees fan, I'm really disappointed (but not surprised) with this decision and how it's being handled. I just hope that everyone gets into the stadium on-time before the game starts and the ticketing folks err on the side of letting people in (especially today with the news dropping so late). I understand this is a Yankees decision being shoved on NYCFC, but Yanks are also owners, so it's kind of one and the same, no?

I'm a STH, so hopefully their promises are upheld that we can use printed tickets for this season. Unfortunately, I'm temporarily relocated 5 hours away and just can't make it to all of the games, and I'd be forced (for affordability reasons) to reconsider being a STH if I can't resell tickets on StubHub, etc. This is about convenience for me, yes, but this also worries me from the standpoint that I want this team to have as many fans (die-hard and casual) and sell as many tickets as possible. Decisions like this, before you've even had your second season home opener, are just suicidal. Why are we making it harder to be a fan, at a time when convenience and enticing casuals to check it out is most critical?

So did anybody use paper tickets yesterday? What was the experience like? What was the verification process? I went a gate where they were no accepting paper and were somewhat loosely checking that people had non-paper tickets before letting them get into the line. We had our own problems when the scanners went down for 10 minutes, but I haven't seen any reports, here or elsewhere, about how the paper ticket process worked.

my son and 3 friends used paper tickets without issue, although they did arrive at the gates early at 4:15 so that probably helped

We got to the Stadium about 3:30 and breezed right in through Gate 6. There were a couple of minor issues and I'm not sure they're really worth mentioning.

When we approached Gate 6 one guy saw our print at home paper tickets and was about to send us in another direction, but his partner said no problem and let us in. All he did was scan the barcode with his hand held device. As I mentioned on another thread, it turned out to be nothing more than something anybody at the gate could have done.

When we passed through the gate the guy behind me had some sort of problem. I don't know exactly what happened, but he did have a hard stock paper ticket and I think they were sending him to another gate, but don't hold my feet to the fire on that one.

Something tells me this nonsense ends sometime in the spring after the baseball season starts. Once Yankee fans start bitching and moaning and/or Stub Hub cuts the Yankees in on a piece of their action, print a home will magically reappear.

I think if a compromise is reached it is much more likely to take the form of mobile tickets becoming exchangeable via Stubhub than a return to paper, but we'll see. I certainly don't miss carrying a stack of 8.5 x 11 tickets to games.

I think this is right. The Yankees already publicly made the offer weeks ago, supposedly without requiring a price floor. That a deal has not been made indicates that either those reports were off or the sides are playing tough on some ancillary issues. I also suspect the sudden spread of the all-mobile position to NYCFC was collateral damage from those talks, which both sides probably expected to be done by now after the Yankee offer.

As for full sheet paper tickets, I agree they are a pain. I bought the prepaid parking pass option, which only works via print-at-home, and it was weird to have drag the paper along with me.

There were definitely a couple of spots where they weren't accepting printed tickets. Two guys in front of us got all teh way to the metal detectors with theirs and were told to go to a different gate (but not before they stood slack-jawed in the metal detector befuddled with the whole ordeal and I had to get them out of the way just so I could get in.).

But the bigger problem seemed to be the scanners not working so the lines just grew and grew and no one got in for a while and people just started forming their own lines totally randomly.

Another complicating factor is that I think Yankee ticket subscribers have the option to choose regular stiff paper tickets, which we've never had. So putting aside the StubHub issue, this move was always easier for them and their fans as there is a failsafe for the new, untested mobile ticket system. We don't have that. Print At Home was our fail safe. [I don't consider the cards our failsafe as PAH was the backup for when you forgot or misplaced your cards].
Add in that apparently NYCFC thought they would be allowed to keep their system and had it yanked away last minute, and it created a real scramble. Print At Home was already activated for Game 1; there were no instructions for Mobile even published yet; Game 2 followed only 5 days later so the timeframe for Print At Home came with no activation and no explanation, causing everyone to ask questions; and this is where they made things worse for themselves they decided to stall, give inconsistent and sometimes clearly deceptives answers until they were ready to make an official announcement after 5pm Friday; which by the way is less than 48 hours before the first game and I expect maximum chaos.

This is an excellent point and one I made in e-mail to the ticket rep last night. If you're going to adopt the Yankee policy, you can't have it both ways. We have to be given the options of the hard paper stock tickets. Attempting to try to implement this policy "ad hoc" without that option is a huge issue. Let's see if their unofficial "pledge" that STHs will have the print at home option for the rest of the year is true.

Well the New England game is available for print at home, so I guess the storm has abated for a while, kudos to everyone who contacted all the different people and offices.

Just got a call from the FO wanting to follow up and see how my experience with mobile tickets went on Sunday. I purchased individual game tickets via TicketMaster and had no issues with the mobile tickets, but I'll give the club credit for reaching out and making sure everything went well and offering to answer any questions.

"I understand this is a Yankees decision being shoved on NYCFC, but Yanks are also owners, so it's kind of one and the same, no?"

This ^ and to add to it, I couldn't care less where the problem is coming from. I purchased tickets from NYCFC and i expect to be able to "manage" what I paid for in a reasonable manner...

It sucked that I couldn't access my tickets when I initially wanted.... Used Gate 6 and had absolutely no problem, quickly scanned (print out) and on our way.

Edit: cut out something I have to double check

I'm confused about this mobile ticketing. How do we get the tickets on our phones? Also I transferred a pair of tix to the 3/26 game to a friend, and he asked how to enter via mobile, but I have no clue.

If you go into your ticket manager, there is a logo for mobile ticketing next to each event. Click on it for instructions.

Basically, you have to use the browser on your iPhone to go to ticket manager and then choose to use mobile ticketing. The ticket will then show up in your passbook on your iPhone. You will need to have the ticketmaster app and have linked it to your passbook.

Wanted to raise an issue I don't think has come up. I'm taking a bunch of kids to the match on the 26th.

On website re. mobile ticketing it says: "Therefore, we recommend that you transfer to each member of your party his/her individual ticket via mobile, prior to entering Yankee Stadium."

These kids probably all have smart phones (they're 13) but they surely don't have Ticketmaster accounts. Leaving aside the fact that you can apparently still print tickets, how would that work? Could I have all the tickets on my phone? If so, how do they come and go from the seats if security is checking tickets?

You can have multiple tickets on one phone; don't know about the security issue.
