Rugby United New York

47-21 win in the snow in Utah. Runy 4-1 from 5 game road trip to start the season. I think their legit contenders in their expansion year.

Bumping it again since though there's not many other people posting there are enough likes on the thread that I gather someone is actually reading my posts lol.

First ever home game in Brooklyn tonight. Would have loved to have went but work would not allow it. Got home late thought it was a 7.30 kick off but it was 7 so I missed the first 15 minutes. RUNY were ahead 7-6 when I turned it on. Led 12-11 at the half before falling behind 21-12. Won the game 24-21 the winning try coming with 30 seconds to go. It was also a fourth try of the match so gave them a bonus point. They've been a very good and exciting team to watch so far.

They share one unfortunate thing in common with NYCFC their playing in a baseball stadium and the baseball diamond makes the field look very awkward. They don't even cover up the infield so there's a big dirt patch sort of like when 49ers and Giants ground shared candlestick.

That was pretty fun to watch on TV, and the crowd was loud. Once it gets warmer out I'll definitely get down to Coney Island to check them out.

I'm definitely reading your posts, so that's at least 1! Caught about 3/4 of the match, definitely a fan.

100% agree on the "warmer" part of that. Maybe we should pick a non-soccer weekend match in May and get a group of folks on here to go.

I'm definitely going to try to go over the summer I've never even been to Coney Island so I'd like to make a day of it if possible.

31-19 win over Glendale. Bonus point for 4 trys , 6-1 and I believe second in the table. Very fun team to watch. In some ways I actually enjoy Major League rugby more than foreign rugby. I taped the Harlequins-Saracens London derby on Saturday while at work. Clearly the English Premier league for rugby is much better but the lack in quality at time of defense in Major League Rugby actually seems like it's leading to higher scoring less conservative game which is exciting.

Also thing RUNY has done a very good job of exploiting the fact that their in New York to draw decent foreign players in particular Irish.

So first time in a long time they played Saturday afternoon while I'm at work. I did tape the game but I'm not one who's able to watch a taped game and pretend it's live so I do know they won 19-11 over Austin and I will watch condensed highlights later but 7-1 on the season now and what a difference to NYCFC. As I said in the previous post they seem to be using the lure of New York to attract elite (for the league) talent in a way neither NYCFC or Red Bull do in their sport.

RUNY bounced back from their second loss last week to beat Utah 24-22 Saturday night. Sloppy game though exciting once it got going (took 25 minutes for the first points) I do mean to get out there this summer. Ashame it looks like only a few hundred people in the stands to my eyes.

BUMP again,

Didn't make it to a match. Didn't realize how short the season was. regular season wrapped last weekend. New York finished in the 4th and final play off spot with a respectable 11-5 regular season. Will play their first ever play off game away to San Dieo this Sunday.

Agreed about the short season. Was cold for a lot of the matches but now the season's over as soon as it's warm. Also, Coney Island is far away and the tickets ain't cheap. Still, would like to be able to make it to one of the playoff matches if possible if they can advance.

Enjoyed the ones I saw on TV though.

I believe it was CBS sports not sure how many people get that? I DVRed because I had family stuff to do and ended up spoiling the score for myself on facebook though considering it was a loss maybe not the worst thing

I've watched substantial parts of easily 3-4 dozen rugby games and there's about 70% of it makes sense and the rest remains Calvinball.

I don't fully understand every penalty or why it's a penalty nor could I probably tell you the subtle difference between every position. The fact that there are two different codes of Rugby doesn't entirely help either, still unlike cricket, I understand all the basics and the scoring enough to enjoy it and find it exciting /enjoyable to watch when it's a good match.

I'm still having trouble understanding the why behind many things I do know. Like why are you allowed to kick the ball out of bounds 30-40 yards downfield and then control the throw in lines? And the basics of when possession switches eludes me. Then today there was a maul. The announcers made very clear it was a key play by San Diego's defense. I looked it up and read an article that was about maul basics and honestly it clarified nothing.
