Kicking off with a match between Canada and Martinique on Saturday, June 15, here comes the next installment of the Gold Cup.

Will the USMNT find a measure of redemption after the Disaster at Couva? Will anyone even watch this tournament until the inevitable USA v MEX showdown given that it runs concurrently with the Women's World Cup and the Copa America?

Here's a thread to explore these pressing issues.

Without the confederation cup anymore, what’s the point of this tournament exactly?

What's the point of the Euros? What's the point of the Copa America, Africa Cup of Nations, or AFC Asian Cup?

What's the point of any tournament?

You don’t know who will win those. In Gold Cup it’s either USA or Mexico. The rest is just pomp and circumstance.

Smaller teams get opportunities to test themselves in competitive format with outside chance of winning. That’s better than just having training sessions and friendlies.

Also, every regional federation has their own tournament. Why shouldn't CONCACAF, The Second Worst Federation After Asia, have their own too?

I was really hoping you'd respond to this existentially tbh

BTW, close to half the group stage games in a 48-team men's world cup will be just as bad.
Stop hating.... gotta have 48 before the important expansion - it’s the 96-team tournament that will be mucho thrilling.

Just change "qualifying" to "preliminary rounds" and we can say every team is in the World Cup!
