2019 General MLS Transfer Rumors

That’s a move I would have loved for us to make. But Dome would probably ruin the kid. As a USMNT supporter, I’m glad Vermes got his hands on him instead.

I mean look at Keaton Parks and Juan Pablo Torres. 0 minutes so far. Is he ruining those guys?

Dome has integrated anyone new in the starting 11 yet except for Mitrita.

At this point, I’d feel better if Matt Pilkington, the coach of the U19 team, took over. He’s got all of the Licences, including the FA, and his academy teams punch way above their weight.

We have plenty pile on Dome about so far this season but it's a bit early to start claiming he doesn't play the young/new guys after 2 games. I'd say the lack of time for Keaton Parks and Juan Pablo Torres has more to do with the emergence of James Sands than anything else. Dome should have subbed Keaton on for Sands around the 80 min mark on sunday when we were chasing a goal but Dome has proven he sucks at sub decisions so I'd chalk it up to that Dome problem rather than an issue with youngsters. I'll get worried 5 games in if we haven't at least seen a sub appearance from Keaton.

He came on at the end of the Orlando game. It was a cameo, fewer than five minutes, but he did get on the field.

Do we think Juan Pablo Torres should have gotten minutes either of the first two games?

I think Keaton should have gotten more. I don't think Torres should have gotten close to sniffing the field.

I don't even remotely know the player, BUT it gets me excited that he plays for the local club next to where my father was born. So its news worthy for me ( and probably me alone).

Also, not sure how we afford him without cutting one of our DPs if his transfer value is ~4.3mm.... so kind of news that we might be looking to part ways with someone, or its just a fluff article trying to feed off of NY (metro area) rivalry but making up the NYCFC interest side with no support.

Not sure where to post this, but interesting article from Sam Stejskal: Why it's time to change how we think about Designated Players. He's arguing for a distinction between "true DP's" (players like Vela, Martinez, Pozuelo, even Mitrita because of the transfer fee amortized over the length of his contract) and “over the max” players who could be bought down with allocation money in evaluating roster construction

It's a good distinction, there are a number of teams that seem to be leveraging the over the max DP approach to give themselves roster flexibility. Sadly the Medina contract indicates that our FO is no where near the forefront of identifying and using this roster trick. Medina's contract + fee is just slightly above the "over the max" player threshold making him a true DP that can't be bought down. Since he's so close to the threshold it's hard to imagine they couldn't have spread the numbers slightly differently if they have been clever enough to identify the opportunity, not doing so was a failure by the FO.

LOL the part about pissing off the Red Bulls! Given our lack of DP spot and our ...umm... stadium I don't see him choosing to come here.

True failure. But this team has never been innovators. At least they are good at recognizing their mistakes and then copying off the smartest guy in the room. I'm quite pleased with what they've done with our cap and roster over the last 3-4 years, it's exactly what I was calling for back then. I have hope they'll fix the Medina situation by Summer. What I'm not confidant in is the coaching situation.

You know they announced this like yesterday, right?
Didn’t see mention on the boards so thought I’d post. And no, didn’t see it announced yesterday, had a full day at work and after.
