North Carolina (U.S. Open Cup) - Postmatch

I got to meet so many players, it was great! Highlight was getting a photo with Ring, Stuver, Mitrita, and then trying to take a picture but hitting video with Taty and after two seconds he yells "Is Video!!!!!!!!!" and runs off lmao
You sure that was the highlight of your night?

Really impressed with Keaton Parks tonight -- he really needs to get more opportunities to start in MLS play.

Jesus Medina didn't really respect his opponent. Kind of glad he got embarrassed with the nutmeg after he was trying and failing to embarrass USL players all night. It was nice he scored because he was working hard out there, but he's a player that needs some confidence.

Nice to see the team play well against clearly inferior competition, hopefully they'll be able to keep it up next week.

Heh, sorry that my blue hat is taking up so much of the bottom of your shots, but it was good to meet you! And FootyLovin!

Good times, great weather, and seeing the team in such an intimate space was pretty awesome. I even got to slap five with Maxi, Haak, Medina, Treats, Ibeagha, Taty and Torres. Definitely can't do that from the seats I can afford at Yankee Stadium.

Looks like our bracket will be pigeons, revs, dc, and winner or Atlanta and Charleston?

The only player who I thought played far below expectation was Ibeagha. He was dreadful, and was lucky not to cost us 3 or 4 goals.

Could have been an one-off match, or always the possibility that last year was an over-achieving year supported/masked by higher quality at the positions around him.

He’s probably always gonna be a 3rd CB, affordable and for the cap hit a quality (if not limited) alternative - with only 2CBs ever really playing, difficult to justify a high price/high quality sitting on the bench.

In our case, three CBs are in front and starting - can’t spend on a fourth. If he’s ok with spot squad duty, it’s a great fit. If he wants a raise & to play regularly, we’re not it.

Interesting. I take it you blame him for most of NC's chances that Stuver had to save.* From where I sat I couldn't really see what happened in the scrums in front of goal at either end and I mostly noticed him when he hung out close to midfield but being the last man back and very comfortably handling all the balls that came his way, controlling them, and starting the play back towards our offensive zone.

Ibeagha had to do this because Tinnerholm was roaming all over. At one point in the first half he was way on the offensive side of the field, and oddly to the left and not his usual right. There was a turnover and and as NC started a counter attack the guy next to me started saying "You're playing center back. YOU'RE PLAYING CENTER BACK. YOU'RE PLAYING CENTER BACK!" before Tinny started hustling back to defend.

* By the way, from now on we're not booing. We're saying Stuuuuver!
