2019 Season Ticket Thread

It doesn’t make sense unless they’re pegging it to the price of tix - yours are more expensive than mine, so maybe they figure they can entice lower rung STH to jump at a lower cost and the Delta STH to expect a higher cost?

That type of price differentiation where you try to charge more to people willing to pay more is well established, but it thrives better under more opaque conditions. Airlines do it via a maze of almost invisible fare classes and spread the price switches over time, which makes it hard to track and people accept the changes, thinking especially that it is fair to charge more closer to the flight date as seat availability decreases. And the pricing is opaque enough that people don't always notice when fares jump around for reasons unrelated or even inversely correlated to that.

What the club is doing here though is nuts. Asking me to pay more when lots of people get the same offer on the same day for less cost, and knowing about Reddit and this forum and the likelihood that we share information in real time, is a recipe for customer unhappiness.

In fact it's so stupid I tend to think my pricing has to be a mistake. It looks like everyone was offered a lower price than me, including both multiple reports from people who pay less per ticket and now from Fred who has Champions tickets which cost more than mine. If it's not a mistake it's a really dumb experiment.

Maybe they’re back-charging for all of those breakfast meetings you went to with Patricof?

Yes, all kidding aside, the ticketing group is clueless and inept.

I have a pair in the SS, so it could be from those.

I got the $143 offer. Founding member in section 224 (price category 4), for what it's worth.

The revised trade-in program is working very well for me this year.
I like it as well. I am vastly different then you though. You are selling cause of time conflicts. I am selling because I'm just holding my place in line for the eventual stadium. I don't have any desire to go to YS anymore. So for me I am trying to minimize losses.

So i like it cause I managed to turn 8 wed or uninteresting opponent matches that i surely would have sold at the stubhub $14 min (or nothing) and instead got legends seats to red bulls. I would have gone to that game for sure if they didn't sell, but I did manage to sell them. And I am sure the net price was better then if I did the 8 individual weekday matches. For me, I rolled excess games into something more interesting and convenient. That's a win in my book. Good improvement year over year.

Just a friendly reminder that many of us are owed Stubhub rebates from the club and they could not possibly care any less. It may be time to whip out the old small claims court papers. I will happily spend $50 to make $60 if it means getting them to send an attorney to small claims court.

Yeah, as far as I know, I never received my refund. Not that it was large, but it’s a broken promise and contract.

I remember personally tweeting about Red Bull’s doing Groupon tickets. Well, here we are.

And I thought they couldn’t devalue our seats anymore. What’s the point of season tickets again?

Haha was a similar discussion here:
For me, the point is a show of commitment to the club and the community. Whether or not that's wise is up for debate . But also knowing where your seats / standing room is gonna be (vaguely in the case of the latter), the affordance of building relationships with the people around you, avoiding the logistics of purchasing tickets, meet and greets / city hall events, discounts at concessions.

How many meet and greets or events were thrown this season? If you have ma few friends who sit near you, it’s very simple to coordinate to buy seats next to each other for any match you want to attend. This is my Nycfc community. If someone cares enough to post here, they are a real fan. I don’t care if they are shelling out for season tickets. Especially when alll the value has been sucked away.

These are select seats for select weeknight games.

Not exactly unexpected or even new.

Yeah, it depends where the seats are and what matches of course. I didn't hear much complaints from Yankees ST holders about the $4.15 tax day tickets, because they were upper deck seats for Tuesday games against Tampa.

The underlying problem still exists though, season tickets for NYCFC simply aren't a great value proposition. They need to fix this problem.

City Hall event at the beginning of the season is the only one I've been to.

RE: community - I didn't mean it as a way of figuring out who is in the community or not. I just meant that personally it's a gesture of commitment. I definitely don't think of people who don't have STs differently. Or at least not materially ;)

I repeatedly complained to my rep about this. It should have been as simple as crediting my account on next seasons purchases. Clearly they have no infrastructure to track it. In my last communication with my rep he said the guy who was heading up the rebate quit, and the new guy needs to get up to speed. Classic bullshit delay tactics. Switching to stubhub was half-assed and its showing.

But I am more upset that stubhub fees are 15% this year. So we went from 10% with instant 5% credit at TM, to 10% with who knows when 5% rebate at Stubhub, to 15% with supposed 5% rebate. Not a fan friendly move.

Holy Crap! You're right, I didn't even realize they bumped it to 15% till I looked at my sales and did the math. How can they make this the only way we can sell our tickets?

I think they did a deep dive analysis of the secondary ticket market, forecast future demand parameters and concluded that they DONT GIVE A FUCKING SHIT.

STH for most sports do not get the value of their tickets. Even the Giants and the Jets have to run Groupon deals now and they had a 40 yr waiting list at one point. The value of the tickets only occurs where there is a demand and scarcity of the ticket. The reason Giants and Jets Season tickets were valuable because the games were locally blacked out until the mid 70s. So the only way to see home game was to actually attend. The benefits of Season tickets for Yankees fans is that you get guaranteed playoff tickets. As a Mets fan I can say there is no need to be a STH. Maybe after the Wilpons sell the story can change.

This is my opinion from having 20 yrs of being a Giants STH and my father being a 60 yr STH of the Giants. The value has plummeted since the creation of 2nd market and the new stadium. My friends were able to purchase PSL and their season tickets the yr after the last SuperBowl for the same price I did.
