NYCFC in the Media Thread - 2019

Maybe Sands was being diplomatic when he said he didn’t know why he was passed over. But if that’s true - if Ramos never communicated his thinking to the player, that looks pretty bad.
Reading Dome's quote supporting Sands after how he blacklisted Lewis...... [smh]......

I don't think he blacklisted Lewis like maybe Vieira did. Dome just believed that other players were better than Lewis in training and on the field. Lewis didn't show Dome that he deserved more time on the field for NYCFC, from Dome's perspective.

“The Bane of My Existence”: U.K. Sportswriting’s Access Crisis

The article is not about NYCFC at all, but reading it you can see how NYCFC manages its media access like Premier league teams do:

“There is literally no benefit to Manchester United or Arsenal allowing somebody who’s not them access to one of their players or staff,” said Liew. What if a team like the Cowboys or Yankees made the same calculation?"

and

"If clubs are directing players away from the mixed zone, it may be because they’re herding them to their own in-house media organs. American sportswriters have watched team-owned websites create a parallel universe of friendly content. . . . “Why allow the content to be used or taken for free by people who don’t pay for it when the clubs can have it themselves?” said Ogden, summarizing the attitude of the clubs."

Yeah - it's short sighted. The lack of coverage from mainstream NY media is really hurting NYCFC. I think most of that is just our club flying under the radar, but some of it is lack of good access.

Stories in the papers, discussion on sports radio, morning and evening TV mentions - all of this is important to placing the Club in people's minds as part of the NY sporting scene. Friendly coverage on the team's own website is never going to get that done.

This.

It's the difference between a sports landscape in England where every sports fan is de facto a fan of a soccer team already and an American landscape where 90% of sports fans are ignorant of the soccer universe.

The biggest article about NYCFC in the past two years has been from the Huffington Post. Who likely never went to a press event (training, post-game).

Finally went and checked the Power Rankings. They are a bit loopy at the moment.

I am certainly pleased to see us in 2nd - we are in good form and 2nd in the Suppporters' Shield by PPG.

But, why is Portland one spot behind us in 3rd? I figured they must be on some kind of run that I had missed. But no, they are on 10 points in their last 6 games - good, but hardly great.

By the way, when looking at form over the past 6 games, there are 3 teams in the league tied for first with 14 points. Can you name them? There is also a 4th team that is also unbeaten over the last 6. Can you name it?
