    Expansion Rumors Megathread

From downtown it's a 15 minute drive or 30 minutes by public train. Not bad at all.

It sounds ridiculous on its face but I'm quickly warming up to "room temperature" on it. Play-in games are sideshow drama so it's whatever. Then the best-of-3 in the first round theoretically screens out pretenders well, leaving an "elite 8" knockout final that will be the real show. My main...

https://theathletic.com/4237475/2023/02/21/mls-playoff-new-format-2023/ Nine teams per conference will be the highest number of playoff teams in a “normal” season yet, only exceeded by the 10-per-conference makeshift model during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. The opening “wild-card”...

That's what I'm saying, the pool is all muddied. Old fans don't want change, new fans aren't attracted to what the "Chicago Fire" brand is associated with. Burn it down and start a completely new franchise without any of the Chicago Fire history attached to it, a la Chivas USA and LAFC.

What a terrible organization. They actually need to Chivas USA that franchise, and re-sell the franchise rights to a new group in a few years with a completely new identity. I like their colors and logo actually -- but for a hockey team. The blue looks like the blue line and the logo looks like...

I agree, I actually think Lee was proactive to have replacements ready on the current roster, which isn't that bad. Magno was brought in to be the replacement for Castellanos. Martins was brought in as a replacement for Callens. Santi was always talked about as the replacement for Maxi, they...

    2023 NYCFC Kit Thread

As far as "busy" kits go, this one is pretty good. But it looks like a graphic t-shirt to me, not my category. I also like V-necks and collars, block colors and clean lines, very throwback styles.

I think they point is they should have sold them last winter/summer and *replaced* them with the long-term pieces. They had a one-year plan and then let everyone walk, and are now looking for replacements with fewer resources like the GAM they could have gotten.

Wait. That's a model of our stadium? Am I crazy, or does that look like way more than 25k seats? Also -- holy shit this is awesome. Not sure I'm crazy about the completely open concourses, it will look very unfinished/industrial, but so cool either way. EDIT: 35k per this tweet:

I think there are two reasons; because (1) he has the potential to do it, and (2) the position change could double his transfer value. With the caveat that this is a *highlight* video, watch him again last year: I see evidence of beating people 1-on-1, yes. But I also see evidence of hold-up...

Prepare for disappointment if you're expecting a full roster of high quality replacements by the start of the season. We have always leveraged the summer window to complete the team. I'm also pretty sure Talles will be given the striker spot. Talles is super talented and the point of bringing...

100%. Competitive structure absolutely comes second to business metrics. Any expansion argument based on what would make for a good league schedule is just wrong, they'll fit the schedule to the business not the other way around. The primary reason (by far) they expand is to mark-to-market the...

I'd imagine much of the increased revenue is going to cover the increased costs in producing the games in-house.

Y'all are crazy. Central midfield is the o-line of soccer. Maxi is old, Parks has health issues, and Morales is good not great. I like my team's best players to be down the middle -- we should add a top-5 central mid and striker.
