Yeah, what is that $30 million figure? Just some appraisal that's only used for tax purposes? The arena cost something like $200 million to build, so I'm assuming they could sell it for a lot more than $30 million if they wanted to.

    The Natives are coming

Uniquely NYC but UK style? Unfortunately for you, this is only the fifth or sixth most misguided thing about your proposed supporters group (see things pointed out by all the commenters before me), so you should probably just give up now before you actually spend money on producing top hats and...

    Who is the white Poku?

Watching the game against Chicago yesterday, I thought I saw a sign or ad for $2 beers in the stadium. Can anybody confirm that?

This is basically the Brooklyn Bridge Park deal I think. Some developers got the right to build a couple condo buildings on the edge of the park in exchange for turning most of those shipping piers into parkland.

NYCFC should offer to provide a grounds-keeping/security/whatever service for the entire park in exchange for the right to purchase a small slice of the park for a stadium at market or above-market prices. Somebody linked to an article a couple days ago about the USTA doing something similar as...

THIS 100%. We were asking for 17 acres I think. According to wikipedia, the park is 897 acres. I'm sure all seven people walking around the park on this cold, rainy Tuesday in February were saying to themselves, "I'm glad we have this 897 acres to enjoy because it'd sure be cramped if we only...

I'm a little skeptical. Isn't Atlanta in general known for having terrible attendance (lack of sellouts at Braves and Hawks playoff games, the hockey team leaving town, etc)?

Yep, after the Jets/Olympic Stadium was a no-go, this plan was put into action. I guess we can hope that the developer runs out of money during phase 1, allowing us to build a stadium on the western half (if that's even big enough).

I'd actually be fine with this, but unfortunately most of the cemeteries in Brooklyn aren't adjacent to a subway stop.

If it was Marty Markowitz still, I'd believe he had a shot to do something, but I don't know about this new guy.

    Formation Speculation

It probably doesn't matter too much because the attacking/outside mids should be somewhat fluid and interchangeable throughout the game. I saw Calle and McNamara switching sides during the last game.

    Formation Speculation

All the journalists/analysts have been saying that Jacobson is killing it statistically (number of defensive recoveries, quality dribbles, passes completed, etc) and will stay in the lineup even with Lampard, so I think you're wrong here. Also, Pirlo has always played with these sorts of...

    Brooklyn Supporters

Here's my two cents on Highbury Pub. Drink prices are a little bit higher than I'd like, but they started doing buy backs, so getting every third or fourth drink for free makes up for it. They don't have a kitchen, so the only food for purchase are some meat pies that they can heat up for you...

    Anyone Care For Rugby?

I only watch when it's the national teams playing rugby union, so it's great that the Rugby World Cup is coming up in September. I'm hoping to go to England and see a couple matches. Went to one in Paris during the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

Well, put it this way. NYCFC has 17 home games a year. That's probably the same number of days with the right conditions (weekend or holiday with good weather) where parks in NYC come anywhere close to fully utilized.

I live by the Parade Ground in Brooklyn. Most of the time there's nobody at those fields. Very easy to get a pickup game going aside from weekends in the summer when youth leagues have everything reserved via permit.

I agree with you. There is so much underutilized park space in NYC that could be used for many things that the city needs, not just NYCFC's stadium. Unfortunately there is a perception that park space is sacred and untouchable.
