2023 Roster and Transfer Discussion Thread

With GP leaving, can anyone give me a good reason to watch the rest of the season beyond “a sense of duty”?

    2023 General MLS Transfer Thread

They are going to cheat cheat cheat cheat, and it’s going to be wild. Some of the ways they cheat are going to turn into new MLS rules though, which might actually help the league more generally.

    #MLSisBack - July 14 - Orlando (Postgame)

What’s Deila even going for here? The team’s playing with none of the freedom or creativity that was so important to their success last year. Absolutely nothing positive to say about that match or any other I’ve seen from the team under the new management.

    Mullins to DCU

Calling me out personally is unnecessary, but whatever you say, dude. I totally disagree with you on this, but I've got no fault with you at all. In fact, I usually agree with you on things I've seen you post. But unless you're seriously counting on MLS cheating for us like they do for the...

    Mullins to DCU

Per Christian Araos at EOS, NYCFC is still mulling over the offer. No insider information here, but I'd be very surprised if it fell through at this point. Still, I don't think the ink's dry on this quite yet. While the Galaxy are a special case (as the league has bent over backwards to...

    Mullins to DCU

This is maybe an argument that would win me over. But weren't they doing away with the expansion draft starting this year?

    Mullins to DCU

That's a nice catchphrase, but it's not a real plan. Sustainable growth of the roster through a strong academy and savvy use of undervalued contracts is the proven way to "win always" in this league, and that's not what we've done to date. I don't agree that Mullins didn't have a future here...

    Mullins to DCU

Sure, and we can add Tommy Mac to that list. It's just very important to cultivate some of that MLS lifer talent to keep continuity and cheap contracts. Mullins wasn't a special player, but with another couple years and some good coaching, he could have been a Will Bruin-level guy. This is...

    Mullins to DCU

If we're expecting to build a team by collecting all the international spots in the league, I don't see that as sustainable. Mullins isn't a special player, but he was useful enough, and was unbelievably roster friendly. Going out and dropping $150k on an international striker to be a backup...

    Summer Transfer Window

Balotelli on the outs at Liverpool. On a scale of 1-10, how excited would you be to see him at NYCFC?

    NYCFC Sign Maxime Chanot

I'm not totally sure he would work there. Lampard finds space late -- he doesn't make space, which is what you really need out of a striker. I think he works best at this stage as a sort of shadow striker coming forward from the midfield.

    Mix Gone?

I really think Iraola has made the bigger impact on our general style of play. He's helped as a second goalscorer, no doubt, but I think the Lampard to Mix downgrade (if it ever happened) is smaller than the Iraola to Bravo downgrade in terms of keeping our style of play.

    Mix Gone?

This thread continues to thrive on the fumes of "wishful thinking".

    NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I still think a switch to a 2 striker system, pairing Villa with a target striker, gives us the best chance to win at home -- particularly now that we have two effective wingbacks. With the rise of Harrison, it comes down to whether you think Villa's still able to play on the wing or not. If he...

    NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

I guess it's arguable, but considering the hype for Lampard coming in and the actual contribution, I don't think there's really an argument against Lampard. He's been called the biggest flop in MLS history (bar maybe Rafa Marquez) by non-NYCFC sources.

    NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

Leandro Damiao Great signing. Younger, crafty finisher, creative. Not a perfect pair for Villa, and not the target forward/lone striker that we need to play in YS. But he'd be a very strong asset for the club. Kevin-Prince Boateng Considering the current roster, not crazy about it. We've got...

    Cosmos postgame

I get that the fans don't care about the US Open Cup, but I also think that the lack of emphasis on the competition by most MLS clubs is very dumb, and goes against their own interests. NYCFC's biggest complaint with roster construction is the salary cap. You can raise your team's salary cap by...

The Frank Lampard "F*ck Off" Incident

He just "mouthed" it? That's a bit different. It doesn't change my opinion of him, but "Frank Lampard mildly annoyed by upset fan" is much different than "Frank Lampard tells diehard fans to f*ck themselves with a rusty hammer". I'm sorry if it affected your experience, and I would have been...

    RSL Postmatch

I don't think that's nitpicking. On a global soccer scale, we're definitely closer to a 2.5. I might have overcorrected for MLS mentality. Mea culpa.

The Frank Lampard "F*ck Off" Incident

    I don't disagree at all.
