Thought id start a thread on the attendance numbers for this year. Hoping MLS will crack a 20,000+ average this year.
Week 1

LA Galaxy v Chicago Fire - 27,000 ( was probably around 25k but was officially a sell out)

DC United v Montreal Impact - 11,549 ( some weather issues played a part here)

Philadelphia Union v Colorado Rapids - 18,022

Vancouver Whitecaps v Toronto FC - 21,000

Houston Dynamo v Columbus Crew - 22,351

FC Dallas v San Jose Earthquakes - 15,236

Portland Timbers v RSL - 21,144

Orlando City v New York City - 62,510

Sporting KC v New York RB - 19,784

Seattle Sounders v New England - 39,782

Total for Week 1 (10 games) = 258,378

Avg for Week 1 = 25,838.

All things considered those are pretty good numbers. As of now we have about 34,000 tickets sold for Sunday.

ooooooo so thats why NYCFC hasn't announced anything yet, they are waiting to see average attendance before deciding what size stadium to build.

Ha! Don't I wish.

I do think it is going to be a problem for some teams in the league in 10-15 years time. Some of those stadiums are awfully small, and they aren't being built to accommodate expansion.

Houston v Orlando - 22,407

Chicago v Vancouver - 15,731

Columbus v Toronto - 15,826

FC Dallas v Kansas City - 14,149

Salt Lake v Philadelphia - 20,281

Seattle v San Jose - 39,175

New York City v New England - 43,507

Portland v Los Angeles - 21,144

Total for week 2 (8 games) = 192,220

AVG for week 2 = 24,028

AVG after 2 weeks = 25,033.

Ill start doing individual clubs avg attendances after the next week.

Good for Houston.

Chicago stinks. FC Dallas can't draw. Too far from Dallas. Too bad because that's a really fun team.

Can NYC realistically challenge Seattle in the next few seasons? I feel like if any club can its us.

It's a shame that FC Dallas doesn't get better attendance. I really like the way the stadium is situated; it's as if they built it into the ground, like a snakepit. When you arrive you look down at the field. An under-rated stadium. So many people in Texas have cars; plus Dallas is spread out and downtown Dallas can be like a ghost town at night so I can't see what the huge pull is for Dallas having a downtown stadium; Frisco should be fine and more people should support the talented team there.

Seattle has gone from 31K in 2009 to 44K the past several years.

NYC 27,528 tickets will be made available per match. However, some 33,444 seats can be made available by Yankee Stadium on any given weekend, depending on demand. MLS teams average 90% of capacity so using the lower total, NYCFC would have less than 26K per game and using the higher total, NYCFC would have less than 31K per game -- both trajectories would underperform Seattle's performances the last six years even factoring in the total from the home opener.

Think those stats are a bit misleading the 63k at Orlando and 43k at nycfc are one off and probably 25k for Orlando and 30 k for nycfc are more realistic .so I think you need to factor out about 50 k to get a realistic average

If we average 25k that would be a huge success. It would essentially mean close to max regular capacity almost every game, with some more in expanded sections for the bigger draw games (e.g., NJRB) and a few less on a random weeknight game. It would be great if this week's success, publicity and excitement resulted in a couple more thousand pro rata season tickets packages sold to get us to around 18k, which would put us on that target.
 
Of course we can compete with Seattle. They have a great academy. We hope to have a great academy.

Villa and Dempsey are 33/32. They will be gone in a few years.

We need to continue to attract that just past their prime star. Guys like Nasri and Silva would be stars here at 31.

I think this was in reference to average game attendance. If not, presumably, LA and DC would have been in the discussion mix as well.
 
I love this thread. Attendance is going to be way up this year. Hopefully, TV ratings too.

MLS teams are going to find they've been building stadiums way too small. Orlando is already publicly talking about building their stadium bigger. The current planned capacity is 19,500.

That would be great, but it's going to be a while before anyone can challenge Seattle. Most soccer stadiums are too small, ours included. I do think we can be among the top 3-5 in attendance this year. I am really interested to see what happens after the first week.

By the way, Orlando's plans are to only open 20,000 seats in the Citrus Bowl for soccer this year. Well, they've expanded that to 23,000 for the next game, and they are almost sold out.

- Some poor weather conditions would have slightly affected crowds in Boston and Philly.

- However Philly is looking more and more likely to becoming another Chicago/dallas/colorado/columbus/red bulls type of market.

- LA crowds still surprise me to be honest. If LAFC get their downtown stadium the Galaxy will have some stiff competition.

- Will be interesting if NYRB can get their fanbase back, winning will help no doubt.
