2017 NYCFC Video Thread

It's not just de Blasio that has a State of the City address. Though, I'd think something like this would be made from Claudio and Patricof or someone higher in CFG.

Interesting video, I quite like UMaxIt's content. Can't say PV will be very flattered by his likeness, but otherwise sound content. I will say that it's slightly surprising that they've produced a video like this after only three games, though. Plenty of times teams have to change their shape, sometimes radically, to compensate for early-season failings, and it's too early to be certain that the team will entirely grow into the way that they play at present. I wonder if this video will hold up to the end of the season or will be out of date by July.

It is interesting that they put this together so early in the season. We know a few things won't change - playing out of the back, (predominantly) 4-3-3, and Pirlo playing deep, etc. But like you said, some things can change.

I also found it interesting that people (other than us) are picking up on our reliance on the wingers in attack. We signed a DP CAM creator (usually utilized to create opportunities in the middle), and then focus our efforts going forward on the wings. This is why I am still reserving my judgment on Maxi. He hasn't really been utilized to the best of his abilities, and is asked to track back a lot. He's not being employed as our version of Amiron or Luciano Acosta, which is probably where we'd see the best of him. We also don't have a target FWD to whip crosses to. I distinctly remember a beautiful cross during the Montreal game (I think it was from Jack), that was about 4 inches over Maxi's head. Commentator even said something like "if only he was a bit taller..."

I'm going to keep an eye out for the 4-1-4-1 defensive transition. I think it makes sense, and is probably why we see Ring so high up the pitch sometimes (video points out he pressures the opposition as the second highest player besides Villa). If this is accurate, we then know why we all noticed the midfield issues in Orlando (roles seemed mixed up).

Overall I think it's a pretty good assessment.

Off topic for this thread, but revisiting this to mention that Umaxit is apparently not just a good Youtube channel, but has it's own site with articles and some really good podcasts. Just listened to the Totti podcast on my way to work - their stuff is :handok:.

Edit: Not that off topic, as they do mention Pirlo and Lampard : )

Also, Maxi is seriously looking like mini Villa. Not just the facial hair, but also the shredded, rolled up jeans
