Hey everyone!

I'm no longer commish, Sabo Sabo is. But some people approached me about joining this season. Please show your interest here, so we can organize before MLS gets their fantasy leagues up a running.

This year I’m not going to lose steam I swear

Last year's full season 79th best in the universe, 50th of 32706 in the Spring Season, and world's #1 biggest nerd for actually playing Major League Soccer fantasy soccer shall return.

Can we add some sort of loser penalty or bottom half of the table playoff to discourage abandoned teams?
I agree. Last season half of the games were essentially bye weeks, so some incentive within reason would be nice.

We could restructure the payments so that you earn money for every week. $5 to the winner of every match. So even if you're at the bottom half of the table your matchups would still earn you money.

Commish here. I just want to remind everyone that last year we asked someone to play who had a history of dropping off to make an even number so we could get a strong player who joined late to play.

We have been at a $75 buy-in the last couple years. If anyone wants to change that post or message me.

If fantasy is split into two seasons again, what do you think about the idea that the bottom two teams from the 1st half are relegated from the 2nd half and are only eligible for 1st session and Pigeon Cup? (Last year that was about 75% of the pot).

Weekly prize is a good idea, but it sounds like too much work for the treasurer. Speaking of which is mgarbowski mgarbowski willing to be treasurer again?

If we get at least 16 we can set up 2 leagues. Top league is returning players and then if there’s overflow, by order of finish last year (I’ll prob be in lower league with those rules). If season is split in 2, we can have pro-rel twice a year. Only question is, if all buy ins are the same, what’s the benefit to give to top league winner vs lower league (or is just prestige?)?

I'd be down for that! I feel like the lower league winner's prize would be the promotion to the first league, no?

No monetary reward for winning the lower league? Or making promotional playoff? Doesn’t seem right. Maybe worth more to win the upper league. But would lower league players paying the same buyin and have no chance at it for the 1st half of season agree?

No, second league maybe would have its own buy-in and victory pot, in that case. Separate the two league rewards.
Top League would be, say, 75, Lower League would be, say, 25-50. Can't give people an incentive to relegate on purpose, that's the only issue i see with a double-pot or splitting the pot between bottom and top league winners.

We tried that the 1st season of the forums league. We actually had a 3 tier system. I think it was ambitious, but didn’t work because we didn’t have enough players and some people owned teams in multiple leagues to make the numbers. (Now that I look back, we really did mimic MLS! And then we contracted. New Managment took over Sabo Sabo . But the same shadowy figure still controlled the $ behind the scenes mgarbowski mgarbowski.). Maybe now we’re strong enough to try it again, but we’d have to be careful to keep it small and expand carefully.

Sabo Sabo what do you think? Top league $75. Second league $50. Can only enter 1 league . Everyone plays in cup. If there’s too much interest in top league preference based on 1. Seniority 2. Standings last year. Pro-rel after spring league. And again after fall league, but will have to wait till next season.

Top league has a bigger purse each season. Incentive to not get relegated is you paid more $ so you don’t want to fall into a league w lower purse. And pro is you paid less to enter and can earn way to higher purse by fall.

I don't think we are going to have enough teams to do that. My best guess (unless there are a bunch of new folks who want to play) is that we are going to have 12 teams. There have been fewer every year so far, not more.

I don't see the point of Pro-Rel here.

I can see having 2 leagues with different buy-ins because some people want to wager more and some less. That was what we tried originally. But given that, why have a system that forces people who want to wager more into the lower one because they had a bad year? In the other direction, it's an even bigger problem to force people who prefer the low spend into the bigger one.

I get that people are trying to fix the inactive player problem. I doubt this works and adds unnecessary distortions instead.
