Damn.... that guy is silky smooth on the ball. Would be a great pick up for them. Very surprised he’s interested in coming stateside - wonder if full transfer or a loan?

To answer my own question, Doyle was right. Celtic signed him to a 3.5 year contract but probably because of the work permit issue they've loaned him out to Nashville SC for their USL season this year. He was 2018 college player of the year, 11 goals and 9 assists. Seems strange to me that he wouldn't be loaned to an MLS team for first team minutes rather than USL?

This is great news for USMNT fans. I for one think it’s paramount we crowd fund this absolute gem of a player staying here two more years and becoming eligible.

He’s clean on the prior comps front, and he fills a major gap. If SUM/MLS existed for anything other than to leech profits from patriotic footy fans, they’d give back by making sure he stays here.

A couple of things on this.

Chicago still owns his MLS rights, so anything would have to go through Chicago, either a loan there, or some form of trade where Chicago gets GAM (their favorite).

Talking with some Chicago fans, they think perhaps Gutman may be pissed at Chicago for what they offered him and didn't want to be loaned there (this was not a sale to Celtic, Gutman turned down the Chicago offer and signed with Celtic), so instead goes to Nashville for a year. He should have been able to get plenty of PT at Chicago since they no longer have any LBs after Brandon Vincent retired.

That’s such a medieval policy of serfdom to retain his rights after he rejects their HG offer. Happens all the time in foreign leagues, if a club can’t lock down their academy player, the player then signs with any club he can work a deal out with.

Pablo Maurer says that DCU GM Dave Kasper was approached by an unnamed intermediary who claimed PSG was prepared to meet DCU's fee requirements. So Kaspar and Acosta fly to Paris where PSG says, yeah, we kinda know that guy and we're interested but how about a much lower price.

So either the middleman was just full of hot air or PSG tried to roll over DCU by misleading them to fly across the ocean before getting lowballed.

How long has he had a green card? Five years to citizenship under normal circumstances - three if you’ve married an American.

Confused why Kasper wouldn’t have communicated with PSG before booking his Delta flight?

MLS/Chicago are being vindictive by blocking Nashville from taking the kid on loan - all because they’re an expansion team that hasn’t yet expansioned.

Aren’t MLS expansion teams technically new entities when they actually enter the league? If anyone wants to challenge that legal notion then this is evidence #1

Yeah, I believe the former LLC, or whatever the makeup is, disbands and a new LLC is created for MLS purposes.

This is kind of things the Union should be using against MLS owner operators. What a farce that term is.

Would MLS blocking Nashville on the grounds of Chicago “owning” the players rights step in to Anti-trust territory??? I would think if US Soccer was impartial, they’d side with Nashville on this since they’re in a different league. This also infringes on the players right to work if he had a deal in place with Nashville.

Well there wasn’t bad blood before, there is now. If it is a work permit issue, I wonder where he goes now

    Best case, another USL side.

Spitballing, but would expect at this point Celtic will “give” him away to a team by picking up his entire salary to make sure he gets the playing time. That’d make him more enticing to another USL team that may not normally have the budget to bring him in.
