2019 General MLS Transfer Rumors

contender for playoffs spot? sure. top of the east? no. this is not LAFC or ATL level yet.

yet. they haven't signed all their DP spots yet, have they? plus - we won't know if they are an LAFC or an ATL til they are on the field. no one looked at LAFC and thought they'd be LAFC, until they were. They are a good coach and a top DP away from being an LAFC like expansion team. except they don't have a stadium in downtown miami :)

top of the east.. i'd be very surprised. playoffs - sure. beat us? NEVER!

i thought they had two young DP's but i looked and its only one. You right though ATL was not ATl till they hit the ground running. LAFC had the vela hype though and even rossi had bit hype. watch it be PV who gets hired and we have the Vieira Derby vs them.

So Alan Pulido goes to SKC for a reported $9.5 million. Whoa. I suppose that's one way to soften the blow of also signing Khiry Shelton.

Man, I hope we sign someone for that much money this offseason (uh, again).

we won't unless we are somehow able to offload medina. at this point, it doesn't look like that's happening. especially with no coach at the helm. they are not going to make any big player moves without a coach's input.

Didn't they have a top 5 ranked team salary before this signing? That's a big money get. Can't see us spending that much on 1 player until we need to market season tix in a new stadium.

Having three DPs didn't stop Atlanta last year!

If CFG really cared about NYCFC winning titles they would be more ruthless when it comes to cutting the dead weight. Every MLS teams gets one buyout a year. And we just used it once in our 5 year history on Mix Diskerud.

How many other guys have deserved to have their contracts bought out? Medina? Not after last season, though he probably does deserve it after this year. Lampard and Pirlo? Was never happening, those guys were here for marketing purposes and they did their job in that regard. Who else was on a contract odious enough to require it? I might be missing someone, but I can't think of anyone.

There was also a lot of speculation here that we used it on Wingert. AFAIK it was never either confirmed or disproven. But he was dropped, officially by mutual agreement, several weeks after the official date to decline options or put people on waivers. The theory is he had a guaranteed contract, they told him he would play almost never, and they agreed to terms under which he got at least some cash (maybe a partial buyout?) and the both said publicly it was a mutual decision. But we don't know.

for all the names thrown around this is underwhelming, of course they could of been BS'ing the whole time with their targets. it may take some time for him to get the groove of MLS but i think it will be ok in year 1. however, like i said in other thread. he tends to get figured out after like a year ( at least in Liga MX) and cant adjust, this leads to losing the locker room.

I would take him in a heart beat. He did great at union berlin, and then after that his career took a downwards turn... but as a backup to heber he'd be perfect ngl.

He's a 27-YO striker with 10 Bundesliga goals and 23 2.Bundesliga goals. I know his career hit the skids the last couple seasons, but he should be solid in MLS.

Downside? He still has 18 months left on a contract that pays him €3-3.5 million. Not sure who in MLS can make him whole on a contract like that, even with an extension. One possibility is a loan where Hamburg eats some of the salary.
